Mokoena Clocks Up 50 for Rovers

The man dubbed Blackburn Rovers "Jack of all trades master of none" by some Aaron Mokoena chalked up his 50th Premiership appearance for the club on Tuesday.

More commonly dubbed the "Axe" though, Mokoena arrived in January 2005 along with Ryan Nelsen and celebrated the signing of his recent two and a half-year contract extension by making his 50th Rovers appearance as a late substitute in the victory over Liverpool on Boxing Day.

The South African has not always been assured first team football, with the vast majority of these 50 Premiership games coming from the bench, but clearly gets enough game time here and there and is rated highly enough by Mark Hughes for him to firstly have made this many Premiership appearances and secondly to have been offered this new deal.

After signing the deal Mokoena said:

"This place is my second home and to know that the association is to go further into the future is great news.

"I am very settled and I feel I can only improve here. The setup is fantastic and the management and coaching staff really help us all.

"I remain very grateful to the club for giving me the chance to come over to England and play in the Premiership which I believe to be the toughest football league in the world.

"I consider myself to be a loyal man and when the opportunity came to lengthen my contract I had no hesitation in agreeing. I want to now help us rise up the table in the league and continue our fine run in the UEFA Cup."

Mokoena is almost always reliable and is a man you can depend upon so I'm glad he's reached his half century, I look forward to many more. Maybe one day we'll be in a position to give him an extended run in his most favourable position as a defensive midfielder?!?!
