Benni: Every Game like a Cup Final

Since arriving at Blackburn Rovers in the summer Benni McCarthy has performed admirably; even if at time people weren't totally convinced. In recent weeks any doubts have been put to one side as he's shown just how important he is to the side even if he doesn`t score.

The South African, who has scored nine goals (six in the Premiership) since his arrival has admitted that coming to terms with the physical nature and intensity of the Premiership is hard though. When speaking on www.fifa.com Benni said:

"It's so physically demanding and every game is like a cup final"

"I've played in Holland, I've played in Spain, I've played in Portugal, and not every game is so fast and so difficult.

"Even if you're playing against the bottom team in the league, it's as difficult as playing Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea.

"In Holland, Spain and Portugal only a few teams made you really work hard and concentrate for 90 minutes. Here you have to be in top form in every game."

It is true that the Premiership is hard to come to terms with as it is far more physical and much faster than many other European Leagues, this is what separates the men from the boys and Benni seems destined to succeed where others, including a certain £30 million man at Chelsea seem like failing…

Anyone that has doubted Benni only has to look at how much we missed him against Nancy, when he came on things changed. We'll miss him on Saturday against Arsenal that's for sure!

Whilst ive had my doubts on McCarthy, he sure can poach some goals. WHat we do need him is to be more consistent, maybe with him being a definite starter week in week out, the pressure of consistently scoring is not there

There aren't really many others to threaten his place are there? If Nonda can find some form (goalscoring wise) and Derbyshire takes his chances and scores a few goals when he gets them this could put some pressure on Benni who would then up his games with more goals you'd think. Competition is healthy, Benni just isn't really getting much of this at present. He is adapting well to the Premiership though when others don't.

Looks an excellent finisher.

His ideal partner is injured. Him and Roberts would be awesome. We saw that when ever they played together. Benni needs a bit of muscle.

I really rate Roberts so can't wait for him to return. Roberts and Benni was starting to look the business. With Derbyshire learning from these guys getting a taste from time to time will only help him also. Matty would have started the season sixth, maybe even seventh choice but is up to (when all are fit) at least fourth, maybe third now.
