Nonda Staying With Blackburn

Some reports are suggesting that Shabani Nonda's season-long loan spell with Blackburn Rovers could come to an early end in January; the player himself has denied this.

When speaking to L'Equipe the 29-year-old DR Congo International captain, on loan form Italian club Roma said:

"When I joined Blackburn, I was looking for a team that could offer me opportunities of first-team football.

"A forward depends a lot on his adaptation to the team's style, and my team-mates also have to understand my game.

"We are an English style team, very physical, but I have to adapt. Anyway I am here and I will stay.

"Some players want to leave, others want a prolongation of their contract, I don't know."

Personally I feel despite a lot of effort Nonda has found the Premiership hard going, and although it does take time to adjust I'm not sure he can or will do so, but I hope I'm wrong. If not then I very much doubt his deal will be extended beyond the end of the season.

Meanwhile one of my personal favourites Matt Derbyshire has come in for praise from Mark Hughes as he looks to force his way into the first team set-up at Ewood Park, maybe even at the expense of Nonda? Sparky said:

"Matt did well when he came on. I wanted to carry the fight to Newcastle and take the ball into the opposition's half.

"He did that. He is a young lad who is still finding his way but he did what I wanted of him.

"Matt will be better for the time spent on the pitch as well."

The more first team involvement Matt gets the quicker he will develop and his eight goals in eight matches return he has in the reserves this season may well be replicated in the senior side sooner rather than later…

If Sparky perseveres with Nonda then he can only do so for a while longer as the longer Sparky does so without a return the worse off we will become, unless Nonda (or others!) begins to score the goals! Let's face it he was brought to Ewood to do that. Hopefully Derbyshire can keep on getting a look in as he'll take chances if he gets them this I am certain of, was surprised he didn't take his one on one against Nancy.

Nonda will have to do something extra special in the next month to earn a contract, fair enough I dont see wot happens in training but its on the pitch that counts. I would like to see the money spent on Nonda if he could just prove he can cut in the Premier league, he has a great scoring record in other couontries but thats no good to Blackburn, it would be a shame if this records is wot keeps him and forces players Gallagher and Derbyshire out of the club in return.

Very good point, past reputations count but you can't dine out on them for ever, people soon get tired if you do. Previous repuatations forcing others with potential talent out (but no real chance to show it) is not the wya we want to go.

very dissapointing. Had a lot of expectations with Nonda, dont no why to be honest. Has not shown much, so show him the door

I think his past record was being counted for so much, maybe too much!

I think he will come good. I know for one Boddington Blue will disagree with the eternal optimist from within me but I believe he has the desire to play well, even if things arent falling for him at present. He wasnt worth £15 million at one point for no reason and has the attributes to be a good Rovers player. I will stand by him even if others wont.

Don't forget he's a loanee! has his family moved over here? is his future playing on his mind? there could be a whole host of issues we don't know about.......... I think he'll come good.

I genuinely hope that you are both right, I would love to see this.
