PLEASE Don't Let Derbyshire Get Away

I've really been pushing Matt Derbyshire's Blackburn Rovers claims recently with many joining me it must be added, I just pray he doesn't become one that gets away…

The kid has something about him, his goalscoring record at all levels of the game proves this but with little chance thus far at Rovers you worry that the more time that goes by without him playing the greater the chance of him leaving?

With him getting a bit of a taste of first team action recently due to others misfortune (there's my profiting from others downfall theory again!) down to injuries to Jason Roberts and Francis Jeffers hopefully he can be given a good run out as a central striker to stake his Rovers claim.

He got a solitary minute (plus injury time) against Fulham recently when included as a surprise substitute, before being omitted from the squad that faced Charlton Athletic a few days later. He came back onto the bench for the Newcastle United match and despite Stephane Henchoz's sending off he still got on for the whole of the second half and impressed despite playing on the right-side in a withdrawn midfield roll.

boddingtonblue recently said "the kid is SPECIAL", when posting in the forum. He later added "the last time I said someone was special was after I saw Wayne Rooney playing on the wing for Everton." We all know about Rooney don't we so boddington must be a good judge of quality…

I just really, really hope that Derbyshire continues to get chances as we will regret it if he becomes one that gets away, which if he can't get games he will as he will eventually leave as his quality deserves football. Why not start this with a start against Nancy during the week in our final UEFA Cup group E match?

He can only be overlooked so many times before his head is turned. I know it's a struggle at the moment but in order to rectify problems you can't always stick you sometimes have to twist and why not twist in Derbyshire's favour? We have ABSOLUTELY nothing to lose by playing him against Nancy as we are through. The boost of a full 90 minutes and possibly even a goal (or more) will help the kid and Rovers. Give the kid a start Sparky, you know it makes sense.

The question must be,could he have done any better than Nonda, given the number of games Nonda has played,If you go on goal scoring,he could not have done any worse,we could have saved a place for someone with ability.Yes he looks like he needs to hit the wieghts, thats why he was on the wing,as Rooney was when he came to Ewood.Nancy could be the perfect launchpad, for a long ewood career, barring the arrival of some 30 something has been, blocking his way.

He needs to beef up but at the same time needs that incentive to beef up, if he knows he's in or around the first team picture you'd think he'll start working all he can to do so (assuming he's not already been told this, which you'd hope he has?) I still think Nonda has worked hard but personally think Derbyshire, given the run Nonda has would have scored more goals. Give him a game against Nancy and see how he goes.

There is no reason not to play him. Nonda was not very good against Newcastle and we lack penetration. Due to the lack of options (Jason Roberts is our best striker but is injured)... Derbyshire MUST play against Nancy.

I think Derbyshire is getting more than enough backing, given his chance he'll take it. As for Roberts I'd not disagree in the slightest, think he is the best srtiker we have and really look forward to his re-arrival. His pace, power and determination are being VERY much missed.
