'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Neill May Have Played for N. Ireland

My love for facts, stats and trivia lead me to try something different here on Vital Blackburn. I gave you a Trivia question to try and answer.

The question asked:
"Lucas Neill represents Australia Internationally but this could have been much different! Why is this?"

He may have represented Australia over 50 times, played in the 2006 World Cup and even captained the Socceroos recently but this could have been very much different if things hadn't panned out as they did.

Neill's father Eddie hails from Northern Ireland and played his football for Brantwood F.C in Northern Ireland so had he not decided to emigrate to Australia in the 1970's (before Neill's birth) who knows Neill could have been turning out for Northern Ireland as we speak… On the other hand had he not grown up in Australia he may well have never made it as a footballer?

I guess we'll never know will we but one thing that is almost certain is he probably would have been supporting England against the Aussies in the Ashes and not the other way round!

Congratulations to vital member jordz_7 who was the first to correctly get this.

Do you have any trivia questions you would like to put to everyone? If so contact me via the e-mail link or place your questions below and I'll get Vital Football Members pondering over your teaser…

well he could of done but isnt his dad n. ireland or one of his parents ? im not sure

His father is Northern Irish but left for Australia before Neill was born. Had he stayed in Ireland ans things still panned out as they had then he would have or could have played for Northern Ireland.

Thank GoD they came down under, plays like a legend for Australia, i have said it all along, plays outside his position for Blackburn, an opportunity we will have lost
