Worst Ever Rovers Away Day

boddingtonblue has come up with an idea; why not share our Blackburn Rovers experiences as he has here.

How about your worst ever Rovers away day? Having been a supporter for some years I have a number I could choose from!

One that stands out is a 5-2 drubbing we took at Hereford United in the old Third Division. Dixie McNeil, who scored against us on a regular basis got a hat trick. I was sat next to a fan that had come from Australia to watch his team get thrashed!!!

The other was a thrashing we took at Blackpool when Bob Hatton (ex Birmingham City) scored all five, happy days!

Do you have any home or away day hammerings you would rather forget but can't?

Why not share these or any of your other Rovers memories good, bad or ugly by commenting below or dropping me an e-mail on this address: editor@blackburn.vitalfootball.co.uk

boddingtonblue gives a more in depth account of the mauling from Bob Hatton and Birmingham in an article scheduled for posting later this week, so keep a look out… it's a good read.

Off the top of my head I can't honestly think of too manty batterings but can remember some hammerings we've dished out to Forest and West Ham!

The one that always sticks out in my mind is the one froma few years back when Souness was in charge and we went to Anfield and lost 4-0 with our only shot coming from Stead on 80 mins.... We were terrible and it was raining in our faces and it all just went horribly wrong.

portsmouth this season was a nightmare. the lads simply didnt turn up. N ot sure of the season but Coventry beat us 5-0 back in the mid nineties at highfield road. That was my first and worst away game!

Portsmouth this season was shocking! That Coventry game was only a coupe of seasons (if that?) after the Title season wasn't it.

yes it was, and to make things worst i think it snowed for the majority of the game

It never rains when it pours... or snows in this case!

I have to tell you of a much worse away day... It was before I saw the light and came in from the cold and switched my allegience to Rovers though... For those that don't know I was raised as a Palace Fan (being a dirty southerner in exile) in fact my old man still has a season ticket! Shortly after my Divorce sometime ago I wished to enjoy more of the beautiful game and leaving in Ewood there was only one choice. Anyway.... back to the worst away day, I was living oop north at the time and a scouse friend got me into see Liverpool vs Palace - when the Kop was still all standing... I blagged a copper to extract me from the Kop and walk round to the assembled Palace Fans (this was very much allowed in those days). We were then subjected to a 9-0 thrashing! 9-0! Every cloud has a silver lining and upon retiring to the pub to meet my mate... the joyous scousers proved to be gracious in victory and bought me beer all night!

ye the pompy start was a shiker i didnt think we would loose by 3 goals

The hammering by Coventry was funny, Sutton played at centreback and had a nightmare. I Remember the game at Barnsley just after we came down from the premiership, I think we lost 1-5. I didn't go, but it stood out as one of Rovers worst games in recent times.

Nowadays you'd just be thrown out EER! I remember that 9-0 mauling Palace took, back in 1989 or maybe even 1990 wasn't it, VERY shortly before the famous 4-3 FA Cup win for Palace over Liverpool though. They thought they'd have an easy ride in that cup semi didn't they, how they were wrong. Wasn't Woodman (or something similar sounding) the Palace 'keeper at the time. He was meant to be the next big thing wasn't he and this all but killed his career I think. Every cloud indeed, you don't often get free drink.... especially from a scouser!
