400 Premiership Goals at Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers 2-0 win over Fulham yesterday not only saw Shabani Nonda score at last, us score some goals at last and us pick up three much needed points at last it also saw us reach another landmark... the brace took us to the figure of 400 Premiership goals at Ewood Park.

Since the first Ewood strike in the inaugural Premiership season of 1992-1993 by the legendary Alan Shearer on the 18th August 1992 in the 1-0 win over Arsenal 399 goals have followed.

It is fitting that the latest strike hero and idol to many Benni McCarthy should be the man to score goal number 400 after the man who was, and indeed still is in Alan Shearer scored the first.

Here's to the next 400 and more, hopefully scored quicker and in front of more than a little under 17,000 people who witnessed the strikes on Saturday. On that day some fourteen years ago when Shearer scored Ewood Park's first Premiership goal a crowd of just under 400 less than Saturday's witnessed it…

Shearer must have scored a high percentage of these 400 Premiership goals at Ewood Park. It's a shame that the crowds haven't really kicked on though isn't it. Little difference in 14 years is a pitty, obviously we've had ups and downs but you'd have hoped for a bigger increase.

Well spotted HDM, wouldn't have known anything about that otherwise. Glad it fell to Benni - He's been a revelation this season. Just noticed an article elsewhere pointing out what value he's been for us. 8 goals from 20 games at 2.5 million, whereas Andrei Shevchenko, Nicolas Anelka and Obafemi Martins cost 49M between them, and have 10 goals in total to show for it. Buy of the season?

Many thanks HRH. I picked up on this thread SEVERAL weeks ago but because we weren't scoring (well at least not more than one!) I couldn't run with it. Think Benni will be up their with buy of the season candidates if he keeps scoring. And they say you get what you pay for!

Benni is the man, he has the knack of being in the right place at the right time and he has ice cool composure as well. You cant even begin to put a price on that and at his age, with his experience and his scoring record.... £2.5 million is a bargain. If you were to rate him now ihe'd likely cost more towards £6-7 million.

How we got him for £2.5 million is beyond me! He ws being linked to teams in january and they were going to pay between £6-10 million. Some six months down the line his price dropped dramatically, he'd easily be worth the £6-7 million you say Mikey easily!
