Okkas: Rovers "One of the Best!"

Over the past week Blackburn Rovers have been heavily linked with Olympiakos striker Yannis Okkas. A trial at Ewood Park has since been arranged much to his delight.

The 29-year-old Cypriot International has caught the eye of Mark Hughes so having requested permission from Olympiakos to give the striker a trial the Greek club have accepted. A club statement read:

"Olympiakos gave an affirmative response at the demand of Blackburn Rovers,' read a club statement.

"The English club asked our permission to give a trial to the footballer Yannis Okkas.

"Our permission to Okkas is for four days, between 20 and 24 December and not from 18 to 24 as Blackburn initially asked."

Mark Hughes (a man Okkas very much admires with him saying "he is a great football personality") will now have four days at the end of December to run the rule over him.

Okkas spoke very highly of Rovers when speaking to skysports.com and is very much looking forward to the chance he is being given of possibly winning a contract with the club, although whether or not Olympiakos will be willing to let him leave remains to be seen. Okkas said:

"It's a great honour for me the interest and the invitation of Blackburn.

"One of the best English clubs with a great history. Many big players have played for this club in the past.

"I hope everything is going to be OK and I can become a Rovers player. Of course, everything depends from my current club, Olympiakos.

"I will go next month to England for the trial and that's all. If the two clubs agree terms, then I will play for Rovers."

As is the case with so many overseas players Okkas sees the Premiership as one of the worlds best Leagues and very much hopes to be a part of it. He added:

"Sure, to play in Premier League is a big dream and great honour for me. This is the best league in the world at the moment and every player wants to have the chance to play there."

I've seen Okkas play and he looks very lively, he has the power we are looking for with the pace to boot the thing I will say though is his age concerns me somewhat. I know the immediate future is our main concern but when buying players we also have to be looking to the future don't we?

What do you make of the Okkas link, will his trial be successful and see him arrive in January? If so is this a move you would welcome? Comment below…

Is his name an anagram?

Newcastle are also sniffing around as they seak a replacement for Shola Ameobi. I'm not sure, maybe other options should be explored but offering a trial leaves us with ALMOST nothing to lose.

Is that a genuine question merlin? If so what do you make it?
