Rovers boss "Incensed" By Phil Dowd

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes was left fuming after the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur yesterday afternoon, with referee Phil Dowd at the centre of this anger.

The main source of Hughes' anger was the decision to show Tugay his red card. Speaking to Sky Sports immediately after the game Hughes said:

"I'm incensed, it was a genuine attempt to get across the guy, no intent whatsoever.

"We tried to get the assistant to change his mind but he decided to send him off."

Having put in another masterful display looking so comfortable on the ball, spreading the passes so well and always looking to be involved Tugay's magnificent volley looked as though it could have won Rovers the game and with it him the Man of the Match award he clearly deserved, so a clearly very frustrated and angry Sparky added:

"It has taken the edge off the game for Tugay. (Followed by a large sigh!)

"Everybody was very disappointed he was sent off because you want to see people like him play."

To compound things Rovers were again denied a penalty for what seemed a clear handball from Mido, Sparky also said:

"Mido clearly handballed soon afterwards and these are big decisions. This is three or four occasions this season when referees have not got these big decisions right.

"It's a game we should have won comfortably.

"We were by far the most strong and powerful team and, with an even wicket, we would have won comfortably.

"Mr Dowd did not have the best of games to say the least. I'm sure he would admit he has had a shocker."

I'm not so sure on Sparky's views on it being a game we should have won comfortably but I will totally agree with his views on Dowd and the decisions again going against Rovers as has so often been the case this season!

Dowd and his officials had a shocker! It's a tough job but these guys choose to do it so it has to be done right, and without wanting to have too much of a go more often than not recently they aren't.

When are these shocking decisions going to stop happening against us? How many times this season have decisions gone against us - aside from Bolton - even in that game we have a legitimate goal not allowed.

It's gone beyond a joke now hasn't it Wellsy! Half of the penalties awarded against us weren't penalties, with so many NOT being given for Rovers. The ones given against Bolton were genuine penalties weren't they. The goal ruled out their was a tough call but officials are paid to make these! You feel things even themselves out I don't think so! If they do we'll be owed A LOT of fortune soon.

Spurs fan here - I thought Tugay was unlucky as it clearly wasn't deliberate but it was a genuine pen - caught him with the trailing leg. I think the law is wrong - they should change the offence from DOGSO to DELIBERATELY denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity - that way the ref is able to award the pen without sending the player off.

well there is only one thing to say - it wasnt a Red Card
marshinrover
In the letter of the law deliberate or not it was a penalty but as Mark Lawrenson often says "the law is an ass!" so couldn't agree more ParkLane67. The red will be taken upon review I'm sure, as will Ghaly's.

hopefully will be overturned at appeal.........

Hopefully but after reading what some have commented maybe this won't be possible no matter how likely it should be!
