Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Jason Brown has spoken on how learning from current Rovers number one Brad Friedel will only benefit him in the long run.
Having already acknowledged that he will have to be patient in his battle to oust legendary American Friedel as the Rovers' number one (Related Article: Jason Brown Prepared To Wait - click here to read) Brown has also admitted that he knows he may have to wait some years yet!
Despite being 36-years-old with Friedel still being in such fine form and showing no signs of easing up he could, if he so wishes carry on for at least another four years couldn't he? Brown certainly thinks so but is insisting that learning from the veteran is an honour. Brown said:
"Brad's 36 and I know keepers play for a few more years - he could easily play until he's 40. He is unbelievably fit and that is good for me because it makes me work hard too.
"And when my opportunities do come around I will have to show what I am about. People can say it is difficult for me, but it is great competition also.
"I'm still very much involved every match day. I do miss playing but I have to apply myself correctly while on the bench with my preparation and mentality.
"I could still be in the spotlight in League One but to be in that spotlight in The Premiership is a completely different thing and you have to earn it and be prepared for it."
You do have to feel for Brown as he will have his work cut out to dislodge Friedel to become the number one at Ewood but from a selfish, fans point of view having two International class goalkeepers, in fact three if you count Peter Enckelman is great for Rovers!
You can't help but feel that should Brown have to wait four years, maybe longer to become the regular number one however he may well not hang around? What do you think? Have your say below…
