Neill Out Of Aussie Squad

Blackburn Rovers' Australian defender Lucas Neill has withdrawn from the Aussie squad for Tonight's friendly with Ghana at Loftus Road, home of Queens Park Rangers.

Having recently been promoted to captain of the national side having done the same for Rovers this season in the absence of Ryan Nelsen injury has forced Neill to withdraw from the Australian squad due to hamstring problems suffered during the defeat to Manchester United. Manager Mark Hughes said:

"He got some tightness in his hamstring, I think it was restricting him somewhat.

"It would tighten up and then once he got in his stride it released itself. It is probably coming from his back."

A similar problem forced Neill to come off against Aston Villa a week earlier with it looking like he may well have had to do the same against United, but he managed to battle through the full ninety minutes this time.

By pulling out of the Aussie squad it is hoped that Neill will be fully fit for the Tottenham Hotspur clash on Sunday. A match that is now EVEN MORE important to Rovers' season. A point at the very least HAS to be claimed here...

A blow to the Aussie's a bonus to Rovers, hopefully! We HAVE to get a point against Spurs, and for this we need all the players fit we can including Neill.
