David Beckham to Blackburn Rovers!

When I first read the words David Beckham in the same breath as Blackburn Rovers I thought that can't be right... can it?

Much like my colleague at Vital Manchester City I thought the crazy rumour mill had moved on from City to Rovers! But is the thought of Beckham plying his trade with Rovers such a far-fetched thing?

The first I read of this was on the news in brief page on BBC and I couldn't help but chuckle, then I started thinking about it and looked into more to find that Rovers boss Mark Hughes had made some genuine comments (at least I assume they are genuine?) on the situation, saying in today's Sun newspaper (also being reported on sky sports):

"I think everybody would be interested in David Beckham.

"I am sure if he came on the open market, there would be a few people in the queue for him. He is an exceptional talent and has been for a long time."

If and that is a big IF Real Madrid decide that Beckham can leave Hughes will consider making a move for the 31-year-old former England International captain.

Under new Madrid boss Fabio Capello Beckham has found regular first team football hard to come across and it has been rumoured that Beckham could move on in January as his contract is drawing to an end. If this is the case then I am sure that MANY other clubs around the globe will be interested so Rovers will face a tough battle:

"There were a few in for Craig Bellamy and we got him," added Hughes when pointing out he had beaten other "bigger" teams to sign a player before.

Bellamy is different to Beckham for sure but could the fact that Hughes is a friend and former Manchester United teammate of Beckham's sway things in our favour? It is more likely however that Beckham will prefer to see out his days on the continent so if other European teams don't move in for him I doubt he'll be short of offers from America and the Middle East.

Personally I feel that Beckham may well be passed his best but IF (there's that big if again!) Rovers could sign him (his wages would prove a MAJOR stumbling block though) I would welcome such a move.

How this could raise our profile...

I know this article leaves maybe myself and Blackburn Rovers open to attack but hey it is worth it! It's a long shot but you never know.

I personally think he'll go to the US, but then i thought Bellamy would sign for Everton. You never know, he would most likely pay for his wages by raising the profile of the club - I can see attendances and our international fan base going through the roof if Sparky somehow manages it. However, i can't really see us making a serious approach.
Head Rover Heels
We can live the dream can't we Head Rover Heels.
Hughes Da Man
We can dream indeed. What a signing that would be. Can't see it happening though, unless Hughes really is a miracle worker. If so why stop at Beckham....Gerrard? Terry?
roversman
lol roversman. If he does come back to England (which is unlikely I'd guess to any team) why not Rovers? He'd be idolised, play pretty much EVERY game and it would be a challenge.
Hughes Da Man
Dare i say he would also provide a good teacher for Bentley? The words Beckham and teach in the same sentence seems a little weird to me, but I can't help thinking that Bentley has the potential to be the next big thing, and Beckham would certainly be a good example to follow.
Head Rover Heels
Very good point Head Rover Heels, why not, just another plus on why we would want him, lets hope (if things even go as far as an "official" approach) this is another thing used to sway him towards Rovers.
Hughes Da Man
I'm sure he said he wouldn't return to the Prem and also that he could only ever play for one team in the Prem. He'll be off to America to make even more dosh I reckon.
The Fear
Chances are he will but sometimes what people say and what happens can be different. More than likely it'll be down to what Mrs Beckham wants, and not sure it'll be Lancashire!
Hughes Da Man
well if he does come to b;ackburn that will be a dream come true i am a big fan of his dispite all of his critisisums i think he is a world class midfielder
marshinrover
true in that there would be many many clubs after him... true his wages would still be very high...I just somehow do not get the feeling that with the pick of a lrage number of clubs all willing to pay his price that blackburn would be high on his wanted list...soryy guys...
