October 2006 - Goal of the Month

October 2006 - Goal of the Month

Each month, you the Vital Blackburn members are given the chance to vote for what you thought was the goal of the month. Where possible you are also given the chance of actually seeing the goal!

The votes have been cast and after being given the option of these six (the only six scored in the month) Rovers goals for October…

David Bentley
Sunday 1st verses Wigan Athletic, Ewood Park, Premiership (2-1 win)
Following up his wonder strike against Salzburg David Bentley would draw Rovers level with his 45th minute strike. A pass into him by Lucas Neill would be expertly dummied to Francis Jeffers who played a fine first time pass into Bentley who took it on with his right foot, curling past Chris Kirkland with a delightful finish into the corner. Benni McCarthy
Sunday 1st verses Wigan Athletic, Ewood Park, Premiership (2-1 win)
Having come from behind Benni McCarthy would strike the winner against Wigan. A long clearance from Brett Emerton would be chased down by Jason Roberts and McCarthy. Chris Kirkland came charging off his line but totally missed his kick, which Roberts knocked on for McCarthy to role into the empty net for his easiest Rovers goal so far. Although he did look suspiciously off side early in the move! To see goal click here

Benni McCarthy
Saturday 14th verses Liverpool, Anfield, Premiership (1-1 draw)
With Liverpool having failed to concede a goal in winning all their previous home Premiership games Benni McCarthy became the first to breach their back line. Brett Emerton played the ball down the line to David Bentley whose great cross from the right into the box eluded two defenders as well as Shabani Nonda finding McCarthy who stylishly side footed home with a fine finish. Robbie Savage
Saturday 19th verses Wisla Krakow, Reymonta Stadium, UEFA Cup Group E (2-1 win)
Having undeservedly gone in at half time 1-0 down, following Tugay's good ball over the top Shabani Nonda brought himself some time before picking out David Bentley who's pinpoint let footed cross picked out the head of the unlikely source of Robbie Savage. The header looped right into the corner for a fine goal. To see goal click here

David Bentley
Saturday 19th verses Wisla Krakow, Reymonta Stadium, UEFA Cup Group E (2-1 win)
In the 88th minute having come from a goal down David Bentley gave Rovers the lead and the win 2-1. Jason Roberts did tremendously well to create a shooting chance for himself (after being tremendously played in) which was well saved. Benni McCarthy followed up only to be thwarted once again, and with the goalkeeper and defender closing the angel down Bentley did very well to force the ball home. To see goal click here

David Bentley
Sunday 29th verses West Ham United, Upton Park, Premiership (2-1 defeat)
In injury with the game all but lost Benni McCarthy turned his marker with ease before getting a shot away from the edge of the area. Robert Green saved but could only spill into the path of David Bentley as he followed up and he tucked away to give Rovers hope. To see goal click here

…you voted unsurprisingly in favour of David Bentley again for his strike on Sunday 1st against Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park in the Premiership.

So David Bentley scoops the Goal of the Month for the second month in succession having also won it for his wonder strike against Salzburg in September.

You would think that the amount of people that voted wouldn't be wrong, so do you agree or not? Why not have your say below…
