Hughes to keep Tugay Hungry!

Another vintage performance from Blackburn Rovers midfield maestro Tugay with a stunning goal to match during the 3-0 UEFA Cup win over FC Basel can only have reaffirmed what Mark Hughes must have surely already decided... That the legendary Turk will surely have a playing contract at Ewood Park for at least next season!

The veteran continues to defy his years (I know I keep harping on about Tugay but he really is that good as we know!) with his performances, particularly in Europe, especially with the amount of game time he has had to play.

Hughes had been hoping he could use him intermittently this season but injuries and his top form have seen him play most of Rovers' 15 games this season. Playing 11 in fact, which probably could have been more but for the fact he was suspended for the opening 3 matches, so really he has only sat out one match that he didn't have to! Speaking in Saturday's Sun newspaper Hughes said:

"I haven't been able to give him the breaks we both feel he needs. But it certainly hasn't affected his form.

"His latest goal was an absolute cracker and he has been fantastic for us this season.

"He gives us something different in midfield, with his vision and passing.

"He has a great attitude to training and preparing for matches. And if you do that and look after yourself properly, there is no reason why you cannot keep going for a lot longer than we are used to.

"I managed to drag it out until I was 38 and you see Teddy Sheringham scoring for West Ham at 40. I feel that will become more prevalent."

At 36-years-old Tugay is a whippersnapper who will be at Ewood Park for the 2007-2008 season at least... surely? Speaking on the prospect of a contract extension Hughes added:

"I'll make him wait a while and keep him hungry!"

I don't think they come much hungrier than Tugay Sparky! We all love Tugay but what do we REALLY think of him, leave your tribute to the Turkish Master below...

Has Tugay been injured for the last few seasons? Coz I havn't heard of him for ages before last week.
wei, wu and shu
Nah, not at all really. That's the thing with Tugay he quietly gets on with his business not looking for the limelight. If he played for one of the giants of the game you would hear about him EVERY week I am certain. WHAT A FOOTBALLER HE IS.

He is a wonderful player and one of the most technically gifted i have ever seen....God i wish he was twenty-five again!!!!!!!!!!!

He's playing like a 25-year-old isn't he daz2903! He really is fantastic isn't he, in a way though I'm glad he isn't 25 on the other hand as if he was he would be poached by one of the giants wouldn't he. I still think he could carry on for at least 2 more years though, maybe until he is 40!
