Rovers expect to complete Varney signing
Rovers are expecting to complete the signing of striker Luke Varney in due course, with the striker set to finalise terms after being released by Leeds United.
Varney, who was far from a hit at Ewood Park during a short loan spell at the back end of last season, endured a fractured and difficult relationship with his parent club Leeds United and it came as no surprise that Varney was included in their published release list last week.
But manager Gary Bowyer is a fan of the effect the lad apparently had on his Rovers side last term, and has moved back in for the player - having 'missed out' on winger Liam Feeney to Bolton Wanderers.
"Luke was desperate to play and we saw that from his attitude and his performances when he did play for us," Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"I remember Reading away, he was playing like a centre half at the death. They were chucking balls at us and he was there heading and kicking them away.
"He`s such a lively character and he`s got the experience that I think we have needed. He did not play enough in his own mind because of the form of the front two.
"But he worked his socks off every day in training and he was so supportive of the front two.
"He also has the ability to play out wide as well, so he was fantastic for us even though he didn`t feature as much as he would have liked."
Not exactly a signing to up the blood and pulse rate...
