The early thoughts from Blackburn Rovers fans were that Benni McCarthy's signing was just what the club needed. Early indications in terms of form and his goalscoring exploits thus far are proving that he certainly is just what we need.
At the start of August Vital Blackburn ran this poll, "Is Benni McCarthy a good signing for Blackburn Rovers?" At the time 74% thought that his proven quality alone made him just that. Another more recent poll which asked, "Who has been best summer transfer window signing?" Again by a country mile Benni won with a massive 77%.
The South African Internationals pedigree and history with some of the best club sides in Europe coupled with his amazing goalscoring records not only on the domestic fronts but also European stage, often the biggest of stages the Champions League had us drooling with anticipation.
Having chased him for so long, and with his ambition to play in England stretching back almost a decade he finally got his chance when he arrived at Ewood Park in the summer for an amazingly low £2.5 million! Yes £2.5 million, unbelievable isn't it. What can you buy for that amount... not a lot, well not a lot quality wise usually but we've got a hell of a lot for our £2.5 million!
Rovers fans immediately fell in love with Benni and he almost as quickly fell in love with us recently stating that so long as we want to keep him he'll happily stay as long as we want and would even spurn the advances of "bigger clubs" should they come in for him.
It is still early days but Benni is in line to be among the signings, if not the signing of the season and is already rapidly earning his place in the Blackburn Rovers hall of fame for legendary players!
