'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rovers can take solace in late push

Rovers are heading into their final game with something to play for, with a faint hope at a play-off spot still on the cards.

Rovers are relying on snookers with a heavy win at the weekend needed to give the Ewood side any hope of extending the season beyond Saturday.

Even the players are still keeping a brave face despite the unlikely odds with Corry Evans leading the wildly optimistic nature of the words.

"The season`s not dead for us going into the last game - there`s still something to play for," said Evans to the Lancashire Telegraph.

"From my experience with Hull last season, when it went right to the wire, I know anything can happen in football.

"All we can do is worry about ourselves and get the three points."

With Rovers likely to fall short the season should end in natural disappointment, however there is hope in the longer term picture with the side on a very decent run of form after finally getting their act together.

For long periods this campaign Gary Bowyer's men have been consistent only in their inconsistency - something that has ultimately cost us a real crack at a top six spot.

But after finally shaping the side better with the signings of Rudy Gestede and Craig Conway in January, the club has finally managed to field something akin to a decent Championship side in recent months - which has ultimately led to something approaching a mini streak of promotion form.

Too little, too late most likely for this campaign... but with a better foundation for cautious optimism next time around. I'm sure we've heard it all before, but after previous summers of major surgery and mass upheaval, only the cosmetic stuff is likely needed for a better shot in 2014/15.
