Rovers Defenders set for Ewood Exit?

Rovers Defenders set for Ewood Exit?

Reports today are claiming that Blackburn Rovers defensive duo Andy Todd and Michael Gray are set to quit Ewood Park.

As we all know what is written in the newspapers and what actually happens aren't always the same but today's Daily Mirror is saying both players will be looking for moves away soon. Personally this isn't a surprise to me, if indeed it is any of us especially where Todd is concerned.

32-year-old Todd has failed to play one minute of first team football since putting in his transfer request following Mark Hughes' decision to drop him for the Premiership game with Chelsea in August. Injury ruled him out for a while but since recovering from this he has rarely made the squad of sixteen for matches let alone played.

Todd was an unused substitute for the game with Chelsea on Wednesday and although the one time Rovers captain would run through brick walls for the cause the writing has been on the wall for sometime. With first team football in the starting eleven let alone match day squads not assured (which at this stage in his career is needed) chances are Todd will move on sooner rather than later…

Michael Gray, also 32 played the opening games of the season but since has rarely figured making the bench a few times, but has only gained a few minutes of first team football since as a very late substitute.

With Gray not even named in the squad to face Chelsea even with Lucas Neill reverting back to right-back leaving the left-back berth available Jay McEveley was preferred. I've constantly said that I felt Gray will leave in the summer but with him being at a similar stage of his career to Todd a move away as soon as January, possibly on loan is very possible.

Leeds are being linked with Gray again. I think we can probably add Matteo to the list! If his wages can be matched I'm sure the club will be happy to get him off the wage bill! Lets face it he won't play will he.

well its not to bad if the 3 of them go, they are all good honset players but I think, as well Hughes mite, that at the ages they are, they may all be 32 and the wages they are on that its better for the club to get them off the wage bill, this will free up the money for another player (or two ) to come in, prob in Jan, the Egyptian lad and mentioned b4 and another midfielder

Very true. Wael Gomaa's the Egyptain defender but even he is in his 30's but he's meant to be something special, so someone who will play in the team. Can see a complete re-shuffle at the back come January. With Nelsen back think he'll play alongside Gomaa (if he arrives) with Oiijer playing right-back, Emerton back in midfield (???) and McEveley or Taylor left-back. This is all assuming Neill leaves and Gomaa arrives.

Neill will leave its just when, I forgot Gomaa's name and although he's in his 30's he will prob not be on a high a wages as the others and prob a better player to boot if u believe the reports. Emerton should stay in rite back as Bentley has settled in rite wing and Emerton has looked good this season in defense and Ooijer is just slow to play rite back in my opinion. Left back will sort itself out with McEveley and Taylor. Zurab could play at riteback but I think leave Emerton there

Hughes Da Man who would u think Sparky would have on his hit list for Jan apart from the one mentioned above?? Any names being rumoured that u have heard of, cos it's not long now till it all kicks off.

Obviously midfield HAS to be looked at, especially in the middle as players are few and far on the ground there. But who will come in I don't know? Think David Dunn could come back though you know. I've not really heard of anything concrete (if you can have such a thing rumour wise!) but if we here are Vital Blackburn do the readers here will be the first to know.

well leeds want matteo and grey now ?? they can have them if i was hughes i would sell them for £1m for both of them

something complietly different to what this is on about, but if you were hughes what would you do, this is what i wouls do

Get rid...they are deadwood in the squad now. We have better and younger options. Hughes should be looking for maybe an extra defender or two in Jan depending on how many leave and then more midfield options.

Irish Eyes Are Smiling

Blackburn`s game against Doncaster had already been called off. If it hadn`t, it definitely would with the Republic of Ireland`s decision to include two defenders in the final squad.

No Tippy-Tappy Performer

Bradley Dack has proven plenty of ability on the ball and has a keen eye for a goal, but the former Gillingham man has also show he's physically able and willing to get stuck in.

Modest Marksman

You'll not find many who haven't been impressed by Armstrong since he came to Blackburn. The on-loan Newcastle forwards goalscoring exploits speak for themselves.

Different Date Same Outcome

International call ups for Leutwiler, Mulgrew and Evans, along with provisional calls for Lenihan and Williams mean the trip to Doncaster has changed, the hoped outcome wouldn't.
