UEFA door opening for Rovers?

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes was confident of progression through the group stages before the game with Wisla Krakow, so after it he must be even more optimistic.

With the top three sides progressing from the five team group it is very much hoped, if not expected Rovers should be strong enough to get through. After Thursdays opening group E 2-1 win over Wisla Krakow this is an even stronger possibility.

Prior to the match with Wisla Mark Hughes said:

"Three teams qualify and I would like to think that we are strong enough to be one of them. If we can do that then who knows what will happen in the latter stages.

"I think there is a real importance on getting a good start I think that settles everyone down. Although a trip to Krakow will be tough we aren't too disheartened by the level of the opponents. Obviously we will give them great respect, but we hope to get something positive out of it.

"Any points away from home are good. I think with the way the competition is set up the home games are really important. If you can win those and then get something away from home in one of the other games then you are almost guaranteed a place in the latter stages."

Hughes hinted at being happy with a point, the three gained from the trip to Poland makes the task that much easier, not that I'm saying it will be easy by any stretch of the imagination. Rovers do now at least have a big tie through the qualification door.

Well we gained more than we and Hughes could have hoped for last night! Rovers are now in pole position (pardon the pun!)
