Following Blackburn Rovers' 2-2 draw in Austria with FC Salzburg in the first round first leg of the UEFA Cup we hear at Vital Blackburn ran a poll. Mark Hughes' recent comments have echoed what we felt all along!
Following that 2-2 draw on Thursday 14th September a poll inspired by roversman was posted which asked, "will Salzburg act as a "catalyst" on Rovers' season?" To which a massive 72% felt it would! 48% of that amount felt the goals and result were needed, with the other 24% thinking they would then go on to beat Manchester City which they did 4-2!
Rovers boss Mark Hughes has now echoed thoughts that we had all along by saying he fells that the UEFA Cup aggregate victory over Salzburg, especially that 2-2 draw helped shape an otherwise rocky start to the 2006-2007 campaign. Hughes said:
"We went out to Salzburg and were really positive, we put in a good performance and got a decent result and that form filtered through to our league form.
"We are playing very well and I've been as pleased with the level of performance as I have been with the results.
"We've been really positive, got the ball down and passed it around - like we did at Anfield - and I think our form is as good as we could have hoped for going into the UEFA Cup game.
"Cup competitions can help your form in the league and hopefully that'll be the case with Europe as well.
"We've got points on the board in the Premier League and we've got to the group stages of the UEFA Cup which is also important this year because we want to progress in Europe. It will help the development of the team."
So there you have it once again Vital Blackburn and its viewers have hit the nail right on the head!
