Following Blackburn Rovers' 2-2 draw in Austria with FC Salzburg in the first round first leg of the UEFA Cup we hear at Vital Blackburn ran a poll. Mark Hughes' recent comments have echoed what we felt all along!

Following that 2-2 draw on Thursday 14th September a poll inspired by roversman was posted which asked, "will Salzburg act as a "catalyst" on Rovers' season?" To which a massive 72% felt it would! 48% of that amount felt the goals and result were needed, with the other 24% thinking they would then go on to beat Manchester City which they did 4-2!

Rovers boss Mark Hughes has now echoed thoughts that we had all along by saying he fells that the UEFA Cup aggregate victory over Salzburg, especially that 2-2 draw helped shape an otherwise rocky start to the 2006-2007 campaign. Hughes said:

"We went out to Salzburg and were really positive, we put in a good performance and got a decent result and that form filtered through to our league form.

"We are playing very well and I've been as pleased with the level of performance as I have been with the results.

"We've been really positive, got the ball down and passed it around - like we did at Anfield - and I think our form is as good as we could have hoped for going into the UEFA Cup game.

"Cup competitions can help your form in the league and hopefully that'll be the case with Europe as well.

"We've got points on the board in the Premier League and we've got to the group stages of the UEFA Cup which is also important this year because we want to progress in Europe. It will help the development of the team."

So there you have it once again Vital Blackburn and its viewers have hit the nail right on the head!

We have as much as everyone else Dazed.... If Middlesboro can reach the Final ( no offense to the team there, but they had a certain amount of luck with the teams they met on the way ) but Blackburn are a better footballing team so providing on the luck of the draw this time we should get a run going of good form then dosnt matter who u meet!!

I think we play football the right way and with plenty of speed. This is why we pvercame Salzburg with relative ease. So I feel we have a chance to progress in the competition. It will be very hard to win and we will need a lot of luck

oh you always need luck roversman, I really agree with the fact that on any given day Blackburn are one of the better footballing teams in the league, playing with 2 out and out wingers!! on the other side they can grind out results as well, getting hard to beat arent they?!

So long as the draw is kind to us, and we have that luck that we all agree we need as we do play some SUPERB football I can't see why Rovers can't win the UEFA Cup! Had Boro played better in the final last season they could have won it, and who would have thought that! I think Rovers are a better footballing side than they are.

Irish Eyes Are Smiling

Blackburn`s game against Doncaster had already been called off. If it hadn`t, it definitely would with the Republic of Ireland`s decision to include two defenders in the final squad.

No Tippy-Tappy Performer

Bradley Dack has proven plenty of ability on the ball and has a keen eye for a goal, but the former Gillingham man has also show he's physically able and willing to get stuck in.

Modest Marksman

You'll not find many who haven't been impressed by Armstrong since he came to Blackburn. The on-loan Newcastle forwards goalscoring exploits speak for themselves.

Different Date Same Outcome

International call ups for Leutwiler, Mulgrew and Evans, along with provisional calls for Lenihan and Williams mean the trip to Doncaster has changed, the hoped outcome wouldn't.
