'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Thankfully the Premiership is back!

The busy International programme is now fully complete with all the travelling Blackburn Rovers stars now back preparing for Saturdays match with Liverpool. I for one am more than glad to have club football back after England's poor displays...

Australia assured qualification into the Asian Cup Finals being played next summer thanks to a 2-0 win over Bahrain. Rovers duo Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton again played the full 90 minutes. Whether or not Neill will take part in next July`s tournament as a Rovers player remains to be seen...

Andre Ooijer and Zurab Khizinashvilli both played the full 90 minutes of their respective Holland and Georgian Euro 2008 qualifying games. Ooijer in Holland's 2-1 home win over Albania and Khizinashvilli as 10-man Georgia fell to a 3-1 defeat to Italy in Georgia.

With Jason Brown having missed out completely on the Welsh 18-man squad for the crushing 5-1 home thrashing from Slovakia, he at least made the Welsh bench as they recovered to beat Cyprus 3-1 in Cardiff. However Peter Enckelman again had to watch Finland's 2-0 win over Kazakhstan in Almaty from the stands, after again being left out of the final match day squad.

Promising youngsters Eddie Nolan, Keith Treacy and Alan Judge again played as the Republic of Ireland won their final UEFA under-19 Championship qualifier with Holland. Nolan captained the side to a 2-0 victory.

All in all a largely successful week of International qualifiers and friendlies at varying levels for all Rovers involved, with all returning unscathed and ready for the clash at Anfield on Saturday as the Premiership returns to action.

After England's disappointing group games I'm glad to see the Premiership back again. I almost wish the break never happened now as I'm sure I would have enjoyed Rovers over one 90 minutes far more than I had England over two...
