Rovers Chairman to talk with Neill?

In the wake of Blackburn Rovers defender Lucas Neill's recent comments chairman John Williams has said that talks on his future had been planed upon his return from International duty.

Williams has said he had agreed to speak to Neill about his future when he returned from Australia, and still hoped to persuade him to remain at Ewood Park, but following Neill's comments at the end of last week I'm not sure that any amount of talking will change the situation now? When speaking the Lancashire Evening Telegraph Williams said:

"I spoke to Lucas as he left the stadium after the game on Sunday (with Wigan Athletic) to catch his flight and I said to him that we would talk about his future when he got back and sort something out then, and he agreed."

I would suggest that any hopes Williams and Rovers might have had of persuading the Aussie International to remain with Rovers beyond the summer, maybe even beyond January have all but disappeared now, if they hadn`t already?

Meanwhile it is being reported that West Ham United manager Alan Pardew is keen on Neill also, and West Ham could be ready to enter the race for Neill's services? Liverpool remains Neill's preferred choice but it is unclear as to whether or not they'll return with a fresh offer in January.

Although West Ham are a good team, despite a difficult start to the season many Rovers fans would probably see a move to the Hammers as an insult to them as he claims the reason he wants to move is to better himself and further his career, which with all due respect to West Ham, who as I say are a very good team, would a move to Upton Park really be doing this?

You never know your chairman might be able to salvage something ? you don't want to get the reputation of a selling club thats for sure , especially when you are in top 10 of prem league ! how would moving to west ham further his career , load of tosh , its money , thats all thats driving him !

They don't want to sell him, but have little or no option apparently. if he can though I'm sure Hughes will keep him even though he will walk away for free. If he did go to West Ham it would only be for the money, but if he is true to his word money isn't the key to any move?

There's no ambition in any move to any other team in the Premiership - yeah Liverpool are in the champions league but that the only difference, granted an expensive one but who knows wot Blackburn could achieve if the so called top players didnt come out with this crap about leaving all the time. It must upset the morale of a team to see this in the news, Yeah Neill might want to leave but he should shut up and do it in private with the two clubs instead of every other day reading another story about him, puts a bad light on the club as a whole.

Liverpool will only want Neill if they fail with another bid for Alves, no offense intended on anyone but thats why they signed Bellamy as well, got him cheaper than there other target in the summer - Villa, plus the signing of Kuyt didnt seem likey at the time. Neill will be the same, a cheaper stop gap until Rafa gets the player he wants, Then wot will Neill and prob Bellamy ( whos not doing himself any favours at the min ) do?? The grass always looks greener but is it
Clint
I agree totally there Clint. Neill will only serve as a short-term back-up option for Finnan. He won't settle because the fans won't let him. I really cannot understand why he would want to swap us for that. He is almost 29 so he would like to be playing every week. Finnan is the same age and pool will be looking long-term and that isn't neill!!!

Good point from the both of you Clint and roverman. Liverpool did a similar thing with Abel Xavier when he was at Everton, his contract was winding down, he was approaching his 30's so they picked him up cheap and only used him for the final part of a season then he was done, Neill will go down the same road.
Hughes Da Man
Very true. Neill will unfortunately amount to nothing at Liverpool. He is better than that but if he can't see it...maybe he is blinded by that red light district in merseyside like Bellamy was.

lol roversman.
