Will UEFA run keep Neill at Rovers?

Could an extended run in the UEFA Cup for Blackburn Rovers convince current captain Lucas Neill that his future indeed lays at Ewood Park? Brad Friedel certainly hopes so.

Chairman John William and manager Mark Hughes have both stated their intent to keep him, with a fresh contract waiting in the offering. Rovers goalkeeper Friedel is one of many hoping that he will indeed agree to stay:

"It's extremely important to keep Lucas.

"If we can hold on to him it would be great for all of us. He would be hard to replace.

"Lucas is a good guy, he's got a level head on him and works ever so hard.

"We've never had any trouble with him or any drop in form. He just gets on with it. He is a leader on and off the pitch.

"Lucas has to think of himself and his family, but we are hoping that a good run in Europe and the Premier League will do something to make him think about his future."

Will an extended run in Europe convince the Australian to remain at Ewood Park? Only time will tell...

I for one hope that Lucas stays - time to put him in the centre of defence now and let Mikey have his old spot back.

When Nelsen returns though Neill won't be used in central defence will he? So is it worth putting him there now? It was a move that I wanted a while ago but not sure it is worth doing now? Hopefully Neill will stay though, I'm not saying I don't want him to at all.

Why would a good run in Europe keep him?? He never stated that Blackburn were not good enough or anything but that he wanted a new challenge, so why would that change now. I wouldnt want him to go but he'll not be missed as much as I thought at the start of the season, the club has players of his quality that want to stay
Clint
well i hope so he is a very good defender and if we can keep him its less money on more transfers to pay out

Can't see Neill staying, Spurs will be knocking on the door and I really can't see him turning them down to stay with you guys, and thats not because I think Tottenham are a better side or that Tottenham have better supporters but its a glamour thing and Neill has stated that he wants a new challenge.

His mind must already be made up one way or the other.

Well which ever way it is it isn't towards White Hart Lane. He has already turned Spurs down. I think he has been a model professional of late playing really well for the team. I have a sneaking suspicion he will stay, largely through default mind you-as I reckon Benitez will have more funds in Jan so will go for a younger and better prospect.

Neill is a top footballer but I just don't see him as a Liverpool player to be honest. Having rejected Spurs should Liverpool not come back again, which I don't think they will, Spurs would be a backwards step them for him personally. Would that really be a step forward for him, it owuld purely be down to the glamour thing that Cravens speaks of.
Hughes Da Man
I dont think that he'll leave for a Premiership club - No offense to Spurs and Liverpool but as proved Blackburn are as big a club at present as the pair of them, def not in the terms of the 3 clubs history but thats wot it is - history! Dont think Utd would need him and he's not expensive enough for Chelsea. A move abroad, Monaco were interested over the summer, they have a 'glam' club image. No serioulsly big club would be interested - maybe Roma or Juve as they look to rebuild
