Rovers striker Nuno Gomes has intimated his intention to stay on at Ewood Park next season and see out the last year of his contract, but is it wise for the club to keep him on?
His agent and brother has given a brief interview whilst talking to the Lancashire Telegraph, clarifying that the current plan for Nuno is to try and force his way into the Rovers first team next season - which he has been on the periphery of ever since a barnstorming start to the season just finished petered out in injury.
Gomes started last term up front with Jordan Rhodes and looked the business, with goals being shared at a decent rate before a few niggles prevented Nuno from solidifying his form and early fan favoritism.
However once fully fit towards the end of the year he had found a new playing system in place and a change in manager which left him down the pecking order and short of games.
But despite this, his brother has stated Nuno will stay.
'He has another year on his contract and nothing says to me that he will not continue.' Ribeiro told the Lancashire Telegraph.
'We are waiting for news on the coach but he has a final year on his contract. We will have to see what happens with the coach.'
The problem I can forsee is that Gomes struggled in the latter stages of 2012/13. Whenever he was called upon he was no better than the likes of Leon Best and David Goodwillie, who were hardly pulling up trees themselves.
Gomes worked OK as a link player but with him cracking on in age is not wise to let him step aside and for the club to build again? Especially as he is hardly likely to be on mere peanuts...
Expecting this topic to be divisive.
