Rovers Roberts Fighting Fit

It is thought that Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts could possibly feature in Rovers' UEFA Cup second leg home tie against Salzburg next Thursday's, according to manager Mark Hughes.

The 28-year-old Grenadian International injured his groin towards the beginning of September during training with what is thought to be the final kick of the session. He has since missed the 0-0 League match away to Sheffield United, the Salzburg UEFA Cup first leg tie in Austria and the 4-2 victory over Manchester City at Ewood Park, also in the League.

Roberts will not be available for the trip to the Riverside Stadium against Middlesbrough on Saturday, but it is believed that he stands a good chance of featuring in Thursday`s UEFA clash at Ewood Park should all go well.

Having Roberts back would be a huge Bonus for Hughes as he is very powerful and could cause Salzburg defenders many problems.

With Benni McCarthy and Francis Jeffers also at Hughes' disposal not to mention Paul Gallagher, who has impressed as of late Hughes should not be short of options. Gallagher had a good game in the first leg and his goal as a late substitute against Manchester City could only be seen as encouraging for both him and Hughes.

Less we forget Shabani Nonda, his pace and power has looked impressive so far with his quick thinking earning Rovers the third goal on Sunday. It is only a matter of time before he opens his account, which he would have already done but for a great Nicky Weaver save.

It would be great to have Jason back. I feel he hasn't really had a chance to express himself fully yet at Ewood. Roberts to return with the goal that sends us through? It would be great wouldn't it?

It would be worth it, plus you would probably get decent odds!

I imagine Roberts last scorer would be priced up at 5/1 and Rovers 2-1 to priced about 7/1 with the scorecast coming in at roughly 28/1 or 33/1

Just a guess mind you I could be wrong (by the way I aint offering those odds before anyway decides to place money!!!)

Bit of a bookie also are we roversman! I quite like those odds so I would have taken you up had you not added your disclaimer...

I have a few years of experience with bookmakers so I have a decent understanding of how they operate their books and work out odds. You would probably find better odds somewhere on line

If I need some advice on a possible bet I know where to come then as my bets are usually s... not very good!

McCarthy and Roberts going all out at the Salzburg defence would be a great sight to see.

I hope this will be the case. Benni is settling in well which is good to see and scoring now, so we just need Jason to get his first and then sit back and admire a blossoming strike partnership.
roversman
In Roberts' absence Nonda will have a chance to work on a partnership with McCarthy at Boro tomorrow, that maybe less the 45 minutes old looked decent against Man City. Whoever Hughes goes for against the Austrians will cause problems

When J Roberts is back i think it will be a battle between the two strikers "S Nonda and J Roberts" for a starting place yes Roberts is good but Nonda is very good aswell ?
marshinrover
I agree it will be a tough call when they are both fully fit, especially if Nonda grabs a goal tomorrow. Let's hope for such a scenario for Hughes.

It's a good dilema for Hughes to have, one which should get them all desperate to perform well when they get a chance.
