Pedersen has sights on Europe

Blackburn Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen has in recent days spoken of how he feels Rovers should again this season be targeting another challenge amongst the top elite for a place in Europe.

So far, Rovers have had a rocky start with two losses, two draws and their first win recorded Sunday at the expense of Manchester City, winning 4-2. This win would see them climb from rock bottom to twelfth place. Despite scoring four against City, they have so far only notched up five league goals and conceded eight, giving them one of the worst goals against starts of this campaign.

Many people feel that it is a big ask for Rovers to perform to the standards of 2005-2006 as it will be hard to emulate, yet after qualifying for Europe in sixth place, it is still a surprise to see the club starting so poorly.

However, Sundays win has raised expectations and given the fans something to celebrate. There is no reason why a club of Blackburn's size can't match their ambition and the Norwegian 25-year-old wants the fans to realise how much the club want to succeed. Pedersen would tell his native VG:

"We have only played five league matches and there is still a long way to go. But our goal is just to finish in the upper half."

With 33 games remaining and a possible 99 points up for grabs, a top six therefore UEFA Cup place is realistically possible and hopefully the new players will gel with the old to create a Premiership force, building on the foundations of the recent victory.

It is going to be interesting to watch both Balckburn and Spurs and how they progress, neither having solid starts and GMP being a potential wing target for Spurs in January. League standings may well improve/diminish the chances of any move.

He won't be leaving Rovers for Spurs in January, no way! If, and that is a BIG IF, we'll a highly unlikely if he did Spurs would certainly move up the table if they already hadn't, with Rovers maybe going in the otherway as a result. He'll not be leaving anyway!!!

Fighting talk from the Norwegian. All he needs to do now is follow that up with displays we all know he is capable of.

He's started too recently after starting off the season basically a shadow of the man we all know he is!
