'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Only at Blackburn Rovers

Rovers manager Henning Berg has released a statement on behalf of the club clarifying the events of Monday night - which led to bizarre reports of a Christmas party bust up involving Henning Berg, a wig and a proposed comedy dance.

Manager Henning Berg, who is already under pressure for poor results in his short Rovers reign, was reportedly asked by staff at the club to get up on stage at the evening do and partake in a little fun.

This led to the Norwegian being asked to put on a wig and dance in a lighthearted and perhaps, festive spirit. Henning was then alleged to have refused, walked off stage and returned to his table in a less than jovial mood.

Some parts of the story which appeared in the Mail have been jazzed up in true sensationalist style, but the essence of the story is confirmed as true and the club have released a statement via Berg clarifying matters.

Berg told the official site - "On Monday evening, the club arranged its official Christmas Party for all employees and staff. We have many hard-working employees and this was an opportunity for them to relax and enjoy themselves after what has been a difficult year.

"After the dinner I was asked to go to the stage, which I was happy to do, believing I would be asked a few questions or maybe judge a competition.

'Instead I was asked to do things which were not the right things for me to do as the manager, considering our league position and form. I did not want to do it and went back to my table. Later, I left the event at around 9.30pm, as planned, and drove home. The players left straight after dinner and no alcohol was consumed."

Yet another PR fiasco. Sadly indicative of the way the club is being run!

Even our parties have scandals in them!

Sounds like he dodged a set-up Max Clifford would have been proud of, and his response to the non-story in the Mail is spot on. SHAMON! check my bad self.

This is a non-story. Berg should not have been put into that situation in the first place and quite rightly left the stage. Could you imagine a DJ or party organiser getting Ferguson or Wenger to do a stunt like that? It wouldn't happen, and it shouldn't have happened to our manager either.

Well said. What detractor of BR decided to have a go and spread a spicy RUMOUR or spice up what happened which seems to me a quite normal reaction ie to go and sit back down. And as for STORMED OUT, that really is the sort of thing a newspaper would say to sell papers! How about NAMING the one who chose to give him a hat and wig!
