'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Singh lays down marker to Berg

Rovers have made their ambitions clear to new manager Henning Berg with Global Advisor Shebby Singh reaffirming that the number one ambition this season has to be promotion.

'At this moment I think the ambition is clear - we have to get back into the Premier League,' Singh told Sky Sports.

'There's no other consideration, there's no other thoughts.

'I think we've put a nice balanced squad together. A big squad where we have players for the short-term, we have players for the long-term and the immediate-term.

'Henning's here now and when he looks at the squad, if he feels whichever term needs to be reinforced we will do that.

Singh understands the reservations that some may have over the club's appointment of a relatively inexperienced man but the club's chief spokesperson feels there is more to it than that.

'When you talk to him you can see certain qualities that over the years you have seen Sir Alex Ferguson express in his interviews, Kenny Dalglish express in his interviews,' Singh continued.

'Obviously Henning has learnt a lot from the great managers that he's worked with and at the end of the day we feel that we've got the right person.'

Derek Shaw has also commented and threw in the rather honest assessment that Berg was far from first choice but despite pushing for someone a little more refined Shaw is happy with the final conclusion.

Shaw, Managing Director of the club added - 'No he wasn't our first choice, far from it - we're not hiding anything there.'

'We had one or two people that we talked to who, for whatever reason, got ruled in and ruled out.

'Henning contacted me personally probably seven or eight days after Steve left.'

'There is a gamble and I think it's become more or less common (knowledge) that I thought we probably wanted someone with experience at this level.

'But, without a doubt, I've no qualms with this appointment. I think he'll be wonderful for us.'

I wish him all the best and I am sure he will do a good job. He will build from the back, strengthen us up and push forward from there. It may be a slow start but I would gladly take convincing 1-0's every day of the week over shakey 4-3's (example). Onwards and Upwards!

I think we have been here before with this man. He talks rather a lot and not much action. He is a good talker that is about all.

Not sure Shaw's comments were entirely necessary but hey ho!

At least shaw is honest! Nice to have around the club these days. Kind of like Black has been about the team. Made me like him that little bit more :P

You know what they say "If you haven`t got something nice to say...." Comments like that from Shaw aren`t exactly helpful. I appreciate freedom of speech but sometimes there should also be a bit of discretion used when printing articles like the one above. Surely what this club needs is a little more positivity and a lot less of the negative if we ever want to move forward. People sometimes will say things without thinking of the consequences that doesn`t mean we should always repeat them especially when it can do damage. There are still too many that will focus on the negative which totally undoes the positive. Sorry if this sounds like a sermon.

Shaw, Managing Director of the club added - 'No he wasn't our first choice, far from it - we're not hiding anything there.' WTF? Shouldn't be saying anything like that. Certainly when he says far from it!
