Rovers To Offer Neill Improved Deal

Rovers To Offer Neill Improved Deal

Having already seen Lucas Neill down one offer put forward to him by Blackburn Rovers the club are preparing to make the defender a new and improved contract offer.

The Australian International, as everyone knows is in the final year of his current deal, remained at Ewood after Rovers rejected Liverpool's advances on transfer deadline day. This now leaves him able to pre-arrange a deal in January to sign for another club for free next summer should he so wish.

"It's still our intention that Lucas will sign a new contract and we will be presenting him with a new variation shortly."

"He did turn our first offer down before the World Cup but we will be offering him an improved version," said Rovers chairman John Williams.

Neill's agent Peter Harrison has already claimed that money isn't the issue with Neill looking for a move away from Ewood; he just feels he needs a change in his career so I'm not sure how an improved offer would change his mind if this is the case?

Meanwhile Dominic Matteo could make a loan move away from Ewood Park despite the transfer window now being closed. The "emergency loan" transfer window opens shortly, allowing Championship sides to pick up new talent on loan deals.

I for one still hopes that Hughesy can persuade him to stay... Lucas Neill is a quality player... I don't blame him wanting to further his career but why is going to Liverpool going to do that? He might just struggle to break into the back four at Anfield. As for Donkey Dominic - cheerio!

if hughes can get neill to stay he will be a rovers legend for sure. he's got pedersen, reid, nelsen, gray, emerton and others to extend the stay at ewood. if he can get neill too as well that would be amazing.

He'd be a fool to move.

Regular football, a place in the starting line-up almost every week is assured at Rovers, not sure it will be at Anfield? I've been convinced all summer he'd leave but I'm starting to think that maybe now he won't?

One thing that is on his side is some time, if Blackburn are "hovering" close to their current league position he will be gone, sitting in fourth and still in EUFA Cup you may have a chance.

That's very true TeddyLyon. I'm sure Rovers will be in or around the top ten by Christmas, and still in the UEFA Cup.

Championship Cost Per Goal So Far In 2016/17

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
