Shaw confirms manager process slow going

The Rovers managerial search is set to go up a notch after a long week ended in a tame defeat at home to Wolves.

The 1-0 home loss should put pay to Eric Black's claims to a permanent spot to the job he's held temporarily for three games now. But with no official short list drawn up as yet by the club's bigwigs it's fair to say we are a good while off being able to announce a firm appointment.

With Balaji and Venkatesh Rao both away in Zurich this week on business the onus has been left to Shebby Singh and his team to continue the process of appointing the man to lead Rovers to promotion, a tough task and one that is set to reach a conclusion over the course of this current international break.

Alan Shearer has been mentioned as a candidate but despite the hyperbole of the media he has been dismissed as a part of the Rovers thought process rather than a front runner.

Derek Shaw (Rovers managing director), when asked about Shearer, is quoted in the Guardian as saying - 'I'm sure it would (be a popular appointment), but even more than getting fans excited we need a good manager who'll get us to the Premier League and keep us in the Premier League.

'Obviously someone with Alan's football record, he'll be on the list that we have a good look at.

But despite being pushed for further details, the truth is that the club's search is still at the relatively infant stage but with two weeks until the next game the search is about to intensify.

Shaw continued - 'I wouldn't confirm anything at this moment in time. There's a number of names being put forward for our job, those names have been forwarded on to the owners with comments.

'We're possibly getting a little bit nearer the interviewing stage but there's no one ruled in and no one ruled out at the moment, so I can't really comment any further.'

'There's been a lot of people enquiring about the job - some people in work, some people out of work.'

'I would have thought (there has been) about 20 good, proper applications.'

Now would be a good time to bring in a name with time to integrate himself into the club before the next game.

It is silly how long it is taking. In a sense of course, I don't want them to rush, but they ain't even at the interview stage, which in my opinion should be the pivotal part. If they were to be at that stage now, and then taking there time, I would be more patient, and understanding... but I have this sinking feeling at the of my mind, that Black is going to be given the job, and that makes me cry.
