Steve Kean resigns

Steve Kean has tonight resigned as manager of Blackburn Rovers.

He has issued a statement through his lawyers tonight stating that he has been forced to resign.Kean said: "For reasons that I cannot discuss on legal advice, it is with deep regret, given my hard work and service for the club for a number of years, that I have been forced to resign as manager of Blackburn Rovers Football Club with immediate effect, due to my position as team manager becoming untenable.

"I wish to thank all the players and coaching staff for their great support and the majority of the fans, who now see their club heading towards an automatic promotion position back to the Premiership. I wish the club all the very best for the future."

More on it as we get it, till then, party anyone?

OH THANK GOD! Now I can get back to being involved with the club I've loved since I don't know when. He's obviously been paid off big time (hence the "legal issues"), but I just don't care. He's gone. I'm having a beer. And then another one. Hurrah!

personally i think you should all be ashamed of yourselves.the treatment dished out to him has been disgraceful.he has given the job his all,and made top defeat and sitting third in the table, what more do you want?.and last week, must have been the first time in the history of english football, where a team top of the league were shouting for their managers head.

Pault50, once again an outside fan hasn't a clue about what's actually gone on at the club, we're all a bit fed up trying to expain to idiots who don't listen. Unless you actually follow rovers? You can't be a supporter otherwise you'd know, if we just look at the home games this season we have been battered each time (not just poor!) and we were saved by individual player quality. Anyway, great he's gone but he's made one final stab to the gut by resigning the day before the match. I'd hope an experienced manager comes in but wouldn't blame them if they didn't, and seriously hope Mick McCarthy isn't appointed! Most importantly, I hearby callout the many fans who said they'd be back once he's gone. I call your bluff because I actually believe many stay away because it's championship football. Enough now, support your club and get back to Ewood.

yes i admit im an outside fan looking also pretty well clued up on football.evn my teenage daughters started feeling sorry for kean last season due to his treatment by the fans,so weve followed the rovers story in great detail.this guy came out with a positive attitude,in every single interview he ever gave.he never once spoke negative towards anything.this season he has signed players of the top pedigree..and has still been treated like a dog.perhaps if you had given him a chance this season, he could have proved to you all that he was the man to get you promoted. well i hope he gets the chance to prove you all wrong with a new club very soon, whether it be in the championship or league one or two.good luck steve kean, you deserve it.

Hopefully he gets that chance at the club you support Pault. Seriously if you feel sorry for Kean then you really aren't a football fan. Read up on how he got the job, his agents involvement with the club. We signed his agents son ffs. He is also a liar (new contract, Salgado, Nelsen, Samba and many more situations where he needlessly lied.) He took a mid table and stable PL team nearly relegated them (no protests) then the season after he did relegate them and you think he should be given time? a chance? What do you call the 74 games he had in charge at this great club? A warm up? a prelude? Get a grip pal. Seriously the man is inept and incompentent. I'm delighted he has gone.

Pault50 please just go away..... You really haven't got a clue and obviously just don't get it. Steve kean is a very poor manager and should never have been appointed in the first place, we've put up with this situation for over 18months and everyone is glad it's all over and he's gone... And please can you follow him?

I agree Pault50 - you wouldn't see many other clubs in England, let alone the world, giving so much grief to a manager who was clearly trying hard. Boycotting the stadium? Costing the club money by not turning up? Stupid. It paints a bad picture of the club and the fans if you ask me.

REDKNAPP? You have to be joking. After the vile abuse you gave Kean, he is the last person who would manage you. When Harry Redknapp was at Spurs, he was shocked by the fierce nature of your criticism and thinks the Blackburn supporters went over the top. 'I have never seen it like that. That is horrific to stand and take that,' he said. 'I watched the game on TV. It was sad to see. The camera was forever going on people shouting abuse at him. I just felt sorry for him.'

To all the curtain twitchers peeking in and taking a snapshot of the club and its fan I say this.....Unless you have lived this nightmare of lies, bull***** and backstabbing over the last 18 months to 2 years, kindly keep your pro kean comments to yourself. You are entitled to your opinion but we dont really give a ***** about it (Take note DJ and Paul). If this man ever gets another job as a manager then he will have the opportunity to ram it down our throats but prey it is not your club and if it is, that he does not have connections to your owner etc. To all the Rovers the time honoured Frank Gallacher tradition......PAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

Unfortunately Bum Bum, it's not just Paul and myself that think you fans treated Kean like ****, it's thousands of genuine football fans, including Harry Redknapp (whom one member now ludicrously thinks might be keen, excuse the pun). And then there's the whole not turning up to watch games - the club is losing money by you not being there, so how on earth is that supporting your club? And how is this bullying abuse of Kean going to help you in your quest for a new manager? Please, it was pathetic to see this, anyone remotely interested in your club has probably been put off by these small-minded acts of idiots. It's all very well venting your opinion at a game, but violently abusing and insulting a man doing his job, is a disgrace to your club. Shame on you.

@pault50 - awww poor Mr kean, he must have been forced to stand there taking all that vitriolic abuse last season, he did it out of the goodness of his heart bless him, not because he was being paid way more than he was worth for a job way out of his depth that he shouldn't have been given. Oh and it can't have been his fault that he was caught drink-driving, slagging big Sam off on video, got us relegated and had no management skills whatsoever to merit a job in the premier league... For the final time, KEAN OUT!! Woohhoo!!

Pault50, Djdutts, and the 'thousands of genuine football fans, including Harry Redknapp', I am sorry but if you can't see how Blackburn fans' complete and utter frustration, despair and hurt resulted in the subsequent 'disgusting' treatment of Steve Kean, then I'm afraid I can't believe you're a genuine football fan at all. Blackburn finished 10th in the PL the season before Venky's took charge and appointed Kean. That was with very little investment just excellent administration: an infrastructure that no longer remains. Club's been destroyed from the inside in little under 2 years, they've taken the heart out of it, and that man has been instrumental throughout. Your lack of compassion is staggering. I completely accept that getting rid of SK doesn't solve all Blackburn's problems. He was, however, completely deluded, tactically inept, and it seems, hell bent on antagonising the fans. So it can't hurt.

To those talking of abuse, can you give us any xamples of this? Because the only real chants that were sung last year was Kean out an d we want our Rovers back, not exactly vitriolic but then you probably take all your football opinions from Sky Sports. How bout you stop being spoon fed horse ***** and make up your own mind. Educate yourself on the situation here. The abuse of the word abuse by those feeling sorry for Kean upsets me on behalf of those who have truly suffered abuse in their lives.
