Now that Rovers have completed the signing of Jordan Rhodes I thought it was safe to a bit of detective work on the newest addition to the Rovers playing staff.
As a result I managed to get respected Huddersfield Town blogger Jamie White to give us a bit more of a lowdown on the hype, the big fee and the ability of Mr Rhodes.
First things first, it's a big fee for Jordan. Is he worth £8m all foretold?
I think football fees have gotten seriously out of control over the past few years, but I guess a player is worth what someone is willing to pay for him. At the start of the summer I'd have been more than happy with a fee around £4m but the club made it clear they had a valuation and were not willing to drop below that. It seems that everyone has got what they wanted from the deal. He's a quality striker but unproven at Championship level. However, his international performances suggest he has the ability to cut it at a higher level.
How do you as a Huddersfield fan feel about the move?
I'm disappointed, but not surprised. I expected him to leave last January, and when that never came off I was pretty certain he would be gone before the start of the season. We've managed to get 2 games and 2 goals out of him before selling, which is an added bonus. The transfer money MUST be re-invested in the team before the weekend, and I really want us to go out there with intent and bring in some quality replacements.
A lot is made of the goals he has rattled off for the Terriers, does he have any other positive attributes to his game?
I'll be honest, not really. His game is all about goals, goals, goals - 40 of them last season alone! He can put the ball in the net with both feet and is also strong in the air. Make sure you have the right delivery and he will score goals for you - simple as that! But don't expect him to be doing much outside the 18-yard box.
And finally, without meaning to sound like a scouting mission, how does a side get the best out of a player like Rhodes?
As I've said already, just by getting the ball to him in the right positions. His movement and positioning in the box contributes a lot to how many goals he scores, so if you lay it on a plate for him, 9 times out of 10 it will end up in the net.
Thanks to Jamie for taking the time to answer some questions on Jordan.
