'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Huddersfield fan on Jordan Rhodes

Now that Rovers have completed the signing of Jordan Rhodes I thought it was safe to a bit of detective work on the newest addition to the Rovers playing staff.

As a result I managed to get respected Huddersfield Town blogger Jamie White to give us a bit more of a lowdown on the hype, the big fee and the ability of Mr Rhodes.

First things first, it's a big fee for Jordan. Is he worth 8m all foretold?

I think football fees have gotten seriously out of control over the past few years, but I guess a player is worth what someone is willing to pay for him. At the start of the summer I'd have been more than happy with a fee around 4m but the club made it clear they had a valuation and were not willing to drop below that. It seems that everyone has got what they wanted from the deal. He's a quality striker but unproven at Championship level. However, his international performances suggest he has the ability to cut it at a higher level.

How do you as a Huddersfield fan feel about the move?

I'm disappointed, but not surprised. I expected him to leave last January, and when that never came off I was pretty certain he would be gone before the start of the season. We've managed to get 2 games and 2 goals out of him before selling, which is an added bonus. The transfer money MUST be re-invested in the team before the weekend, and I really want us to go out there with intent and bring in some quality replacements.

A lot is made of the goals he has rattled off for the Terriers, does he have any other positive attributes to his game?

I'll be honest, not really. His game is all about goals, goals, goals - 40 of them last season alone! He can put the ball in the net with both feet and is also strong in the air. Make sure you have the right delivery and he will score goals for you - simple as that! But don't expect him to be doing much outside the 18-yard box.

And finally, without meaning to sound like a scouting mission, how does a side get the best out of a player like Rhodes?

As I've said already, just by getting the ball to him in the right positions. His movement and positioning in the box contributes a lot to how many goals he scores, so if you lay it on a plate for him, 9 times out of 10 it will end up in the net.

Thanks to Jamie for taking the time to answer some questions on Jordan.

Nice little bit of insight for us, I hope this proves useful.

sounds like a british van Nistelrooy! Lol, not all that interesting outside the box, but as soon as he's inside, goals, goals and even more goals. Just what we need!

Great signing like his way of scoring just feed and he ll deliver .. now a proven CB and full back

loves to score - he comes alive in the box, that being said watch the highlights from Wycombe game live on Sky, strength and pace running at th defence, a bit of skill and a goal holding off some physically challenges. He has it all but does go missing for large parts of games but will then pop up and knock one or two in. Great for the counter attack with good delivery & Service. Good luck with him - he is also a gentleman and very level headed - worth every penny.

Hopefully we can attack with confidence now, service to the strikers has been poor so far. Top signing, but Kean has mucho work to do. What does worry me is Goodwillie was scoring goals for fun in the Scottish league, which could be compared to League 1, and Kean broke him. All the best to Rhodes, if all goes well he could the one that really saves our club on all front.
Citizen Kean
Sounds not to dissimilar to The Yak then, although yak was good at shielding and holding the ball up also(using his mighty posterior).

To be fair citizen kean, goodwille has scored goals for us when he has been given the chance. But for some reason kean won't give him more chances or a long run in the team, but what can we expect, kean is an idiot! I'm not 100% confident of this signing, a lot of money and yet another striker. Hopefully i'll be proved wrong, and hopefully this is a sign of the dreaded venkys actually investing in the club, albeit with our parachute money!
FreidelNo.1
Just to put the record straight, the Venky's own the club so effectively the parachute payments are theirs to do what they want with. At leasts they are investing in the team. Why could this not have been done last season? Lets hope he is as good as the price suggests
Ewoodrover
Ewoodrover my point was - they are putting parachute money ( ours or theirs) back into the club - but probably not their own money - so are they investing? Will they add more?
