Rovers complete Gomes signing

Rovers have today confirmed that 35 year old Nuno Gomes has signed a 2 year deal at the club.

Gomes, who turns 36 on Thursday had been available on a free transfer for a short time, after his contract ended at Portuguese side Braga.

Gomes has played 79 times for his country, scoring 29 goals. During this time he had two spells at Portuguese giants Benfica where he scored a combined total of 125 goals in 293 games, either side of a spell at Fiorentina.

Most recently he spent the season at Braga, playing 19 times, and scoring 5 goals.

Gomes completed his medical at the club training ground earlier today after agreeing personal terms.

The club are now awaiting international clearance for the player.

Along with Gomes, Rovers are expected to announce the signing for Portuguese U21 International Fabio Nunes later this week.

The problem with moves like this and the Murphy one is that if you manage to get promoted with this many old and declining players, it's pretty tough to stay up.
