'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kean pleased with another defeat

Rovers manager Steve Kean hailed the performance of his side after a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in which a lot of young guns featured.

With the likes of Adam Henley, Jason Lowe, the Olssons and Josh Morris all in the side by the end of the game the average age of the side was in the very early 20's and the younger ones certainly gave a good account of themselves.

Kean, obviously, was very quick to notice a positive.

Kean told Sky Sports - 'I thought we started the game really well, we had a lot of possession and I felt that when Chelsea scored it was against the run of play.

'I got the lads in at half time and told them that there is always something to play for. In the second half we had an average age of something like 22 and I thought we were unfortunate not to get the draw in the end.

'I thought we had a lot of good play but it was just that final pass to get Yakubu or Junior in that was lacking.

'I felt we stuck at it and gave a good performance from such a young side.'

How do reporters let Kean get away with statements about the young age of our team - when he got rid of/won't allow our older players to play?!
