Kean - 'The occasion got to us'

Rovers manager Steve Kean feels that occasion of Saturday got to the Rovers side as they turned in one of their worst displays of the campaign.

Rovers were disjointed and lacked any sort of creativity whilst succumbing to a 2-1 reverse, with Kean feeling that Bolton coped with the difficult occasion better than the away side.

Whilst Bolton had a spring in their step, Rovers looked off the pace which is worrying heading into the final eight games of the season.

Kean told Sky Sports - 'It is tight, I always said that (ed - When did you ever say that Kean?), which is why we weren't getting carried away over the last number of weeks.

'We know there will be twists and turns but we can take massive encouragement from the fact that over the last number of weeks we have been picking up points at very difficult grounds against very difficult opponents. I am sure we can do that again.'

'We didn't cope with it very well at all,' he said.

'The first half was way below our normal standards, which have climbed dramatically over the last 12 games.

'Normally when we are quick to the ball and win possession, it ends in a fruitful attack. We always create chances and score goals but the occasion might have got to us a little bit.'

I really don't think the long ball tactics were particularly helpful whilst we are at it?!

And the fact we signed Modeste in January, Goodwillie in the summer and we were two nil down in 35 mins and only played one striker all game! Also what was the point in signing a right back Orr, if an out of position younger player Lowe starts ahead of him all the time.

I think the occasion did get to us, as well as the referee on the day, he was reluctant to book players and waved away a blatant penalty at 0-0. I did think that if we would have stuck to the same game plan as the previous two games we would have blown them away. It was always going to be a difficult game to play in, but Bolton's defence is awful and we failed exploit it, we had our pants pulled down instead.
