Robbo backed for England recall

Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been backed for a return to the England set up by Blackburn manager and head cheerleader Steve Kean.

Robinson has been in international exile for the best part of two years after growing tired of being undervalued by previous manager Fabio Capello.

But after an impressive run of games for Rovers, the Blackburn number one has been mooted for a return to the national squad.

Whilst dispossessing Joe Hart of his starting spot seems a very far fetched dream he does currently provide the second best goalkeeper that England have eligible on current form and that is worthy of a place in the set up.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph - 'Paul Robinson has been great. He has had a really good couple of weeks. He has been training very well with Bobby Mimms, our goalkeeping coach, who has been delighted with the quality of his work.

"Had it not been for his performance in the first half of the game it could have been beyond us. He made great saves at crucial times and then in the second half there were times when he made saves.

"I certainly think Paul Robinson is good enough to get in the England squad. He was disappointed when he was omitted from the squad some time ago and then maybe with a change in the top end of the set up, who is to say he can`t get back in there. He is playing well enough."

Would be great to see him get on the plane for Euro 2012...

Wish I could agree. FOR: His reflex saves are fantastic. AGAINST: His 'all round game' is not world class. He does not command his area, come out enough, communicate enough with his defenders (except when he has let one in). Too many goals against, no clean sheets, often but not always the fault of the players in front of him. Over all, I think we might have had a fewer 'goals against' statistic this season, if Bunn had been in goal (based on his performance against Liverpool and ManU away)

When was the last time he kept a clean sheet for us? I couldn't recall when. Our defence hadnt been good, Robinson's weakness were obvious. Great reflexes, saved point blank shots, but let in many long range shots that he really could had done better. Perhaps, the standard of big Brad Friedel is too high for him, we expected too much from him. Spurs wont had dumped him if he's england prospect, he's no where near playing for england. Championship football is the more likely destination.

But he is better than the other alternatives such as Green, Carson and Foster IMo... thoughts?
