'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kean professes Junior happiness

Rovers boss Steve Kean feels that Junior Hoilett is getting back to his best after an alarming pre-Christmas slump and it's all down to being allowed to run his contract down.

Hoilett is out of contract in the summer and has stalled completely on a new deal as he 'assesses his options' involving a likely move to a 'bigger' club.

But after months of negotiations and attempts by Rovers to get Hoilett to commit himself to the club he's been with since he was 13 proved fruitless both sides have completely stopped talks and a solution is now expected to be reached in the summer for the player and the club.

Steve Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph after being asked if Hoilett has improved now contract talks have stopped - "Yes I think he probably has. Sometimes when that's floating about it can be distracting.

"It can be hard to put it out of your mind. Now he's in a position where he doesn't have that any more, he is totally free of the hamstring injury and he's happy which is the most important thing.

"He's also playing well and training well. I hope these performances can continue because he was a real thorn in the flesh for Everton every time he got the ball. He is unplayable at times.'

If he is determined to leave then we'll just have to collect the fee for him in the summer but a lively and focused Hoilett is only going to be an asset in the next few months...

True that. Is the fee pretty much set in stone or will it go to arbitration?

I think an independent panel access his value and we receive that amount.
