Payne and Modeste heading in

Rovers are close to adding to their squad with news of two imminent arrivals at the club with both deals expected to be completed before the end of the week.

The lads in question are Anthony Modeste, who is due to arrive on loan from French side Bordeaux and young Tim Payne who has come recommended by fellow New Zealander Ryan Nelsen.

Modeste is a rather gangly looking striker in the mould of a Kenwyne Jones type and Payne is a young 18 year old forward who was quite widely chased after from various club sides across Europe.

Anthony is set to join on a six month loan deal to help Rovers out in a weak area of the squad with Yakubu suspended for 3 games and Jason Roberts unable to play because of the now famous 'contract issues'.

That leaves on Cracking Shaft as a recognised striker so Modeste addition will be most welcome.

Nelsen passed comment on his fellow countryman Payne on Sky Sports - 'He has done really well and it has all been on Tim's back'

'Sure, I have got him the opportunity there but they are not giving him a contract because of me.

'He had to play well, plain and simple, and they have watched him a lot.'

The Lancashire Telegraph are also updating us that Rovers are set to reject Chris Samba's transfer request with yesterday's transfer request not altering the club's stance about holding on to the captain of the first team.

The one thing we at Vital Blackburn do know though is that the club policy hasn't changed with the outlook for this window... selling needs to take place to balance the books. Only a small portion of incoming funds can be used to buy permanent additions as replacements.

Please explain the Jacko picture which goes with this article? Or is that what Modeste or Payne look like? ;)

This represents an excellent opportunity for the club, not least to use the following dialogue: Reporter: Steve, what's your prediction for the match? Kean: My prediction? Reporter: Yes, prediction. Kean. Payne.

like the sound of modeste, seems to have a pretty regular goal scoring record to date, certainly compared to most of our strikers anyway!

Nothing to get too excited about just yet is it, but Modeste looks like he can add another dimension for us up top with his height i suppose and Payne seems to have a good rep so could be one for the future. It's a start at least, hopefully more to follow.

@ dave - lols ... Btw, let them come in before we start commenting. Too many transfers ve been expected in the past and not all of them ve turned out to be true. Also, why this delay in removing the deadwood out ? It would be better to let the likes of JRob and Salgado out asap - that will at least free some fund for "good / better" loan signings. And there is a very good possibility of Spurs trying to get Samba / Junior on Deadline day if their tantrums continue, right ?

Samba should stay till the summer atleast, but I understand where he is coming from with the false promises (We're all feeling it!!). Modeste is a fairly decent player, no goal machine but knows where the net is and is pretty strong in the air. Never heard of the other lad... Another 'one for the future' we have to many of those! Samba shouldn't go for any less than £18m in this window

One for the future? Future in the Championship or league one? We need players who are proven to be able to play and cut it in the premiership. The grave situation that we are in now, does not allow us to gamble on some unknown players yet to ply their trade in the premiership. We need experienced premiership players to get us out of this mess.

it sounds like they'd be in time for the championship league by the time they are ready to play...
DommyWalker
well whether we are winning or losing we should always be building for the future otherwise we might as well give up now

I'm just glad Kean has finally decided to tackle our goals problem. I was worried he was gonna try and sign some more defenders!
Durks
This is a side step atm. We need defenders in and a midfielder but on the positive they are looking to the future and did not get AJ
