Samba asks to end Rovers career

Rovers captain Chris Samba has today handed in a transfer request.

The request was made this afternoon and is designed to force a move from the club he has been at for over five years.

Samba is reported to be hurt with the way that promises that were made to him when he signed a new deal last January have not been kept and with him being in his late 20's now he feels the time is ready to move on.

QPR, Spurs, PSG and apparently Manchester City have all registered an interest in the big centre back but no-one has yet come in with an acceptable bid for his services with Rovers rating Samba around the £12-15 million mark depending on who you believe.

Samba said in a statement - 'I have today officially requested a transfer from Blackburn Rovers Football Club'

'I have personally informed the owners, manager and executives at the club that I want to leave in this transfer window.

'In my five years at Blackburn Rovers I have always given 100 per cent in every game I have played. I have had several opportunities to leave but I have always stayed.

'I have decided now is the right time for me to pursue a new challenge and I have asked the club to respect my decision and allow me to leave.

'I thank the fans for their support and I hope they feel I have served them and their club well.'

Can't blame him for wanting to leave and at least he did show for training today which puts to bed the strike rumour.

But unless something drastic changes soon the board at Rovers will turn this request down.

As cracking a defender he is, he has made us a one dimensional force up front... maybe this might help us expand the way we play and help the coffers for future player investment - namely an attacking midfielder a right back and a left back. oh and not to mention a replacement centre half!

this makes me incredibly sad.

The fans have been betrayed by the owners - that's because the fans pay to watch and can expect something in return. On the other hand Samba - and the other players - are paid a very large sum of money to play for the Rovers. I'm sure he has every right to feel let down - but if he is as loyal as he says he is then his first responsibility is to get Rovers home this season. Surely he can wait 5 months to make a move? No one person is bigger than the club so, despite his excellent contribution over the last few seasons I feel let down by the big guy - and so should his team-mates.

If we sell him we will probs get £1m to re-invest so don't hope selling him will bring in more quality players!

Reports this morning suggest that the club are pretty mad with Samba. He actually owes the club money from a loan they gave him... if only he'd save up!?

Would really appreciate if he could stay till end of the season, we are two points off the bottom, samba shouldnt leave us when we are still in the mire. Season end, whether we make it and stay up, he can go to QPR. If we go down, he'll still leave us, as there is no chance of us keeping him plaing championship football.

In a way I dont blame Samba for wanting to leave ... but I have always had the personal opionion that he's not as good as the clubs he is being linked with .. that Nelsen when he played with him made him a better, calmer player. If he was to leave for PSG i can understand that, Spurs im almost sure'Arry will bench him soon, ask Bassong!! and QPR I do beleive is an absolute joke!!! I personally (again ) think that Samba is not irreplaceable and we should only let him go for about £12m+ as u see Cahill went for £7m in the last yr of his contract basically, Samba has 4yrs!!! ... Centreback is not an area that is hard to fill and we can strengthen the rest of the squad, should we lose him and get rid of the fringe players as well ...

I should add to my comment about QPR is why didnt Hughes try to sign Samba for Hughes?? basically he was saying that Samba wasnt as good a Hughes and Hagenland ... so why would Samba then want to join QPR, who have a simliar, if not slightly worse player in *Shittu!! I do think that Samba is a good player, but may be caught out at a big club .. he can and will be replaced ... Some fella Caraces (or something like that ) is being linked .. and if we can get Nelsen back, jobs a good un ... Oh and the stories about Dann wanting to leave ... com on Scott .. surely its different when the club promises it wont sell Samba and him actively looking to leave?!?!?!?!
