Venkys Expect Rovers Yearly Visit To India + More!

Venkys Expect Rovers Yearly Visit To India + More!

BREAKING NEWS courtesy of IndianExpress.com a media outlet that members of the Rao/Desai family actually seem bothered to talk to!

Balaji Rao has been speaking to members of that news organisation in India and some pretty startling expectations have been raised by the brother of the Rao family and co-owner of Blackburn Rovers.

Whilst talking about Pune FC's rise to fame, in a season which has seen the club challenging in the top five of the I-League. It has been revealed some of Venkys ideas for Rovers in future transfer windows and International breaks.

Balaji Rao, has said the club (Blackburn Rovers) would be coming to India every year not just to play matches in Pune but to also be a part of a 'quadrangular league' that, apart from PFC, would involve one major European team along with the winners of the I-League.

That's right ladies and gentleman. A gruelling trip to India and multiple games in the hot environment in a time where the players should be preparing for the long season ahead. In whatever league it finds itself in, in the coming seasons.

I guess it makes it a lot easier for Venkys to bring Rovers to India to play games infront of the owners then to actually use a £5 million property purchased to make attending games in England easier for the owners?

More fun and games from our mind-boggling owners!

What next? Maybe relocation Wimbledon/MK Dons wise to the city of Pune, and the Red Rose of Lancashire being replaced with a 'Chicken McNugget and Coke'?!

I Dont see a problem with this at all. We regularly go on overseas pre-season tours, Australia and Austria in recent years. A trip to India is always on the cards due to our owners. Much prefer this to be pre-season rather than our midseason escapades last time round. As for the tournament it self, why not? The heat would be perfect for pre-season conditioning, and would fit in with the schedule of pre-season fixtures at home and on the continent. Marketing wise, again why not? Venky's have always stated they would like to make Blackburn India's Premier League team. Perfect way to do it. If it helps marketing wise, which indeed it will, then again, why not? As much as I dont want Venkys or Kean part of the club, something like this is rather unique, and worth a shot.

I completely agree with Sasman... playingg ames in India is the beat way to raise the club's profile there and will help in breeding a whole new legion of Rovers fans. I dont like the Venkys but this is not something to get annoyed about!!

Well I can only agree with Sasman - whether it's Aust, the Middle East or India lots of clubs do this now. The change of environment allows the teams to freshen up and prepare for the season. If this strategy was part of a bigger plan that meant putting a strong mgmt team in place, building the Rovers squad and gently pushing them up the EPL this would be wonderful. Unfortunately it seems Venkys are very passionate about the India side of things but leaving far too much to chance in the UK. If only they could see that some serious investment for the next 3-5 years will eventually pay big dividends in India THEN we would have something to be happy about - unfortunately at this stage they are still trying to do this on the cheap. What they may not appreciate is that if we go down getting Blackburn back up will not be a walk in the park.

So long as it makes sense football-wise, I'm not sure I've got too much of a problem with playing a pre-season tournament in India. After all, we took part in that four team Sky effort along with Villa last pre-season in the Asian sub-continent. I suppose that the sticking point might be if an annual visit is expected but there's an alternative that makes more sense in terms of preparation for the season.

I wouldn't particularly have a massive problem with this as long as it's in pre-season... We did one is Oz and one in Asia recently. It's all about the timing I guess.

We'd heard about this before and this 'Quandrangular League' was mentioned as a pre-season tourney, which if it is I have zero complaints with. If they can attract some decent european teams to play rovers as well as pune fc then some hot weather/high humidity training before the season starts is a good thing.

all i can see is a Hatred for the Owners and Indians here from this author. He goes ahead with his cheap Chicken Jokes -> and then complains that the whole club is a laughing stock because of owners. Nice to see that most people who have commented ( sasman, spinaker, petfel, mikey, fransav ) are Bothered about the Club and its profile , even if that might benefit the owners. You are the guys who deserve some good positive results. Rovers have had 2 wins in their last 3 games ; 7 points in their last 4 games. AND, all those points came in games where the protesters were minimal. Let us hope that these results are not one -off. More such Victories are needed and with a better squad, things might be better in future.

Well said tct. Its typical writing from tombo, trying to ram his bias opinion down everyone elses throat. I cannot see one thing wrong with this. It will no doubt get more fans in India and in return more money for the club in merchandise sales etc. It will be a MASSIVE market for Rovers to crack considering their population is over 1 billion people. Imagine if just 0.05% become fans thats over half a million people. And I'll quote Sas and his last comment as i completely agree. "As much as I dont want Venkys or Kean part of the club, something like this is rather unique, and worth a shot"
