Rovers in 'made a bid for someone' shocker

A bit of lunchtime news for us all as it is being reported by all the reliable sources that Rovers have made a bid for Fulham's Andy Johnson.

Andy is out of contract in the summer and has stalled on a new deal at Craven Cottage so is seen as a good value purchase - if Rovers can pull it off.

The transfer window has been a shambles so far for our boys at Ewood Park with nobody coming in and reports of player unrest in the current camp widespread.

But strangely no-one appears to be heading out of the door imminently and yet Rovers have made a move for someone which means one of two things...

1) Venky's are investing.

2) Someone is likely to be heading out soon.

And for those of you that haven't been paying attention here is a small clue as to which one it is... It's not number 1.

No word yet on the size of the bid and whether it will be accepted but rest assured a bid is in. Now we wait.

Wonders will never cease!

Already been told it's too low apparently how they expect over 2m for 30 something player who is out of contract in summer.... plot thickens
ewoodeagle
Question is who is about to head out of Rovers to pay for him? Venky's only have £900m so naturally we need to raise this £2m by selling a player for £6m.

Ha ha Fran. Word is indeed that the bid will be rejected...

Fulham have turned it down as it was too 'low'...
Tombo1984
No doubt our bid was probably less than the bid that Q.P.R had turned down, being the Absolute amateurs that our owners are.
Rye_of_the_Rovers
Apparently the bid was £1 million. Don't blame them for rejecting, but I wouldn't want to pay much more.

Reports are saying that Samba has stated he has had enough and wants to go. The quotes seem very detailed - the club is going nowhere etc etc. I think if the captain is saying these things it is a very bad sign. Firstly it makes it hard for Kean to select him for ANY game. Second, this may be an indication of what other players also believe. Samba is a true professional and every week he leaves it all out on the park. He would also be aware of what his words mean as a captain. Anyhow, if he has made his feelings clear then Venkys can comfortably cough up some money for Johnson but it wont be anywhere near what they are hoping to bank.

Difficult one as 23 says... He's worth £1 million tops, Fulham don't want to sell at that and Rovers don't want to pay any more it seems. LIMBO

And of course, given that we're 7th top scorers in the Prem but can't keep a clean sheet for toffee, what we really need is a striker. How about a right back, anyone? How about a centre half if and when Samba goes? Johnson is a decent player but I'm not at all convinced he's what we're most desperate for right now.
rossp2112
Call me cynical, but putting a bid in so low it would be refused just so we can say we made a bid seems right up their street.
Stubbs
I agree with ross2112 - surely defenders are our priority...
FreidelNo.1
Has anybody bid for Kean ?
Waggy Waggy Wagstaff
Spot on there.. Why sign another striker when we can't keep a clean sheet all season, and is leaking goals at an alarming rate? The manager dont seems to reslise this, which is very worrying. He would do better scouting for some better quality centre backs, and full backs now. Samba goes, defence will be an even bigger concern.
