Andre Ooijer poised to sign

Rovers appear as though they are about to sign Dutch defender Andre Ooijer from PSV Eindhoven. He would become the clubs fifth summer signing.

Hughes has been tracking the Dutch International for well over a year and having recently ended one year-long transfer pursuit when signing Benni McCarthy he could be about to do just the same with Ooijer.

The 32-year-old who was a part of the Dutch World Cup squad, like Rovers` own Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton is in the final year of his current deal with PSV. A fee of around £1 million would be sufficient to capture the defender who would sign on a two-year deal.

Portsmouth have been rumoured to also be keen on Ooijer but it would appear the prospect of European football this season has swayed him to Ewood Park.

Another player linked with Portsmouth, our own Ryan Nelsen will be going nowhere as Hughes has rejected an improved offer. So providing Nelsen recovers in time from his injury he could line up alongside Ooijer at Fratton Park in a little over a week.

ooijer is a great player...and what a name.

Ooijer is a great player with great Euro experience and can cover at rite back. Great news to get a full Dutch International def heading in the right way for the club
Clint
HE WOULD BE A GREAT SIGNING BUT AT THE MOMENT IT LOOKS AS THOUGH PSV ARE TRYING TO BE GREEDY AND ARE ASKING FOR TOO MUCH?
Hughes Da Man
The fact that PSV are trying to keep a 32yr old is good news though, shows that they want to keep him and with the reports that Nelsen is about to sign a new contract, its good news
Clint
I THINK OOIJER WOULD HAVE THE KIND OF QUALITY AND EXPERIENCE OTHERS COULD LEARN FROM. HE'S A TOP FOOTBALLER DESPITE BEING 32. GOO NEWS WITH NELSEN YOU ARE RIGHT, TO TURN DOWN £5M PROVES THEY REALLY DON'T WANT HIM GOING ANYWHERE AT ANY COST.
