Rovers mark out areas to strengthen

Rovers manager Steve Kean has singled out two key areas in which to strengthen when the January transfer window opens.

Far from the portrayed pressurised individual he is painted as Kean is already planning for a month's time in either a blaze of confidence or ignorance.

The idea is to bring in two new faces - a striker to take the goalscoring burden off of Yakubu with David Goodwillie and Barn Door, sorry I mean Jason Roberts struggling in that department.

The other is for me the key bit - to bring in a stronger midfielder to add bite to a weak area in the Rovers side... Not specifically Jermaine Jones but someone in that ilk as has been sorely missed since the end of last season.

'We'd like to bring a midfielder and a striker in.' Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph.

'We will also look to see if there is excess money available. Then we'd like to strengthen other areas.

'But we certainly need a midfielder. At the minute we are playing Morten Pedersen in there and he is doing a great job, David Dunnas well.

'But we are a little bit light in midfield. We have been since the start of the season.

'And you are always looking to add a striker who will score goals. Yak is doing it just now but every club is looking for strikers.'

Wouldn't hurt to shore up the right back slot surely Steve? Salgado's legs have gone and Bruno is seemingly rubbish.

That'd be brilliant!

Watch him just not play Yakubu if he brings in a striker :/
Marcus:)
Yakubu will not be dropped! Considering he's scored nearly half as many goals as Jason Roberts has in his entire rovers career, in twelve or so games guarantees him cult status at Rovers for life!

Would love JJ back. Unfortunately I think he will still be priced out of our range. We really need someone who is prepared to do the dirty work and get stuck in. I had hoped Petrovic would have settled in a bit faster as he can fill that role and I'm sure given time he will improve. Unfortunately for us we need someone who can step up the to plate asap.

was reading that anelka is at the top of the list, would be let go at around 4million... dunno if there is any truth in that. but, i think that would be pretty sweet. i agree, another deffender wouldent hurt :p

Only need a striker after he's sorted out the defence. R/b needed, C/b if Samba leaves and a L/b if Hoilett goes, which allows Olssen to move forward with his pace. Then we need a holding midfield player followed by a Striker. At the moment we can score goals (well the YAK can) our problem seems to be keeping them out of the other end !! Finally if we've any money left can we please have a new Manager or at least fund a Media Training Course for SK.

If we had 10m to spend i woould spend initially on a Striker and Centre Midfielder and then if we have money left from further fringe player sales then a right back would be good....obviously any potential sales may mean that we need another CB etc but i think that the major point here is to ensure that whoever we sign they hit the ground running....I would rather Sidwell and Johnson than Appiah and Ibisevic...the last thing that we want is them taking "time to bed in"...I think you get my gist!!
