Rovers manager Steve Kean may be inexplicably be in line for a new contract at Rovers but judging by his latest comments he is not ready to sign just yet - and it is Venky's who are the ones backing him rather than him clinging to his job.
News re-emerged yesterday of the dreaded new deal for statistically one of the worst managers in EPL history and was met with widespread disdain and disgust.
Especially since Venky's were rumoured to be considering dispensing with his services at the weekend.
But despite the uproar Kean is insisting that he is not ready to sign as he feels the timing is right (goodwill stunt alert).
Kean told the Independent - 'Yes, there have been discussions about a new contract, but I have told the owners that this is an inappropriate time to conclude any new contract discussions. Instead, the real issue is for me and everyone else to concentrate on the games.
'The fact that the owners have talked to me about a new contract means that they can see what we are building here, and we hope to make others see it too.
'We need to turn the last remaining negatives into positives, and the vast majority of the fans can see that our performances deserve to be six or seven points better off and halfway up the table.'
Even more amazingly (yes it does get better) we even received word last night that the club are denying offering a new deal at present to Kean. Deputy Chief Executive Vineeth Rao denied that a contract was on the table at this present time.
So for those keeping score - Kean isn't ready to sign a new deal that isn't on the table from the club but the media believes is definitely in existence and has been acknowledged in the past by both parties.
And people suggest Rovers are a madhouse? Honestly.
