'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Zonz being eyed up from Russia?

Rovers are hardly awash with options in midfield at the moment what with Brett Emerton now in Sydney, Vince Grella and David Dunn constantly battling their now mandatory injuries and Keith Andrews finding life in Norfolk infinitely more interesting than life in Lancashire.

So news that the one constant in midfield for us this season - Steve N'Zonzi - is being lined up for a move to icy Russia will not exactly be met with a broad smile and open arms.

According to the Daily Mail, Spartak Moscow are keen to get their hands on the rather lanky midfield man and would be prepared to offer £8 million for his services (quite where they get the figures from I have no idea).

Steve Kean would be loath to lose the 22 year old who we originally bought for a snip at £400,000 from Amiens just over two years ago but it remains to be seen whether the club could be tempted by a large bid as £8 million does appear a healthy profit.

It also remains to be seen whether this report from the Mail holds any water but I reckon we should be doing our best to hang onto player like Steve because at 22 he hasn't even got near his peak yet.

I wouldn't want to lose him that is for sure - some don't rate him but I am one of the ones who definitely does.

He is a big player for us, he had his best season 2 years ago and he's been a bit hit and miss ever since, but as you say Mikey, he's only 22 so much room for improvement. I still think it would be better to have JJ back alongside him because Petrovic looks a little out of his depth so far.

He's a quality player who must, must, must stay at Rovers. He's got a great future ahead of him and if he goes now we're going to regret it. He just plays it simple and keeps things ticking over in the middle - if we had another like him we'd be much better off.

Mustn't sell him now, even if it's 8M with high profit. We can't afford to lose him now, when we are still in the mire. He's a quality bargain buy by Big Sam.
