'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rao's say no to Director of Football role

The Director of Football role that has been discussed rampantly at Rovers over the last few days has been dismissed as a non-starter by Venky's.

Names such as Rafa Benitez, Walter Smith and Martin O'Neill have been mentioned in connection with a senior role ahead of Steve Kean at Rovers but that talk has been quashed by a source 'close to Venky's'.

Despite their best protestations it is on good grounds that Vital Blackburn knows the DoF role was being discussed but the discussions seem to have been ended an a standard statement has been produced quashing such talk as if it was never a goer in the first place.

The source told the Lancashire Telegraph - "These are just rumours. They are not true.

'We already have a Sporting Director at the club and reports of a director of football are just speculation.'

We have it on very good authority that the role was being discussed at length over the last week or so but the idea seems to have petered out.

Looks like a face saving operation.

In a way it's probably a good thing that this move petered out as it limits the places that Kean hide!

So if this move has indeed been halted, this leaves the owners only 1 choice if results continue to falter. And it's the move we all want, sack Kean and appoint a decent manager.

Interesting. I have been saying since this story came out that it could extend Kean's stay as manager as they would have to employ a DOF and then sack him before sacking Kean. But by writing it off. It is not a option in the future. Kean's collar must be getting a tad tighter after this news from Venkys... Trust me it aint the pies, fags and booze that is chubbying up Kean's neck!
