Hoilett deal hits snag

In what seems to be one of the longest contract negotiations Rovers have ever seen, the club still cannot conclude a deal.

Junior Hoilett is one of the brightest young players in the Premier League right now, and would be in high demand should his contract run out with just 10 months remaining.

The youngster has been at Rovers since the age of 13 and both parties are keen for him to stay however there is one point which cannot be agreed on.

It is believed that the player wants a buyout clause, similar to the one which allowed Phil Jones to leave to Manchester United for less than his worth. Understandably Rovers do not want the clause and the negotiations seem to have reached a stalemate.

The club have agreed to pay the young Canadian a fee in the region of £35,000 per week and a 5 year deal, and only the buy out clause is yet to be sorted, however it looks like Rovers will settle on a fee in the region of £15 to£18 million eventually..

Good if the contract is sorted soon, but a buyout of 15mil will be regrettable- the 5 year contract means nothing if he plays to his potential and goes for only a little

Well if we dont remain in prem buy out clause won't mean much any way as historically all best players jump ship regardless , loyalty rarely counts for anything these days :(

very nervy moments...that doesn't sound promising at all. it sounds like we are resigned to losing another young star soon. this is really when our new owner needs to come throuh...

I understand that he wants one, and hes in the box seat with negotiations but surely more like 20 mil given his age and quality??

Not such a good position for the club to be in, i don't like the buy out clauses like many, Does anybody apart from the big clubs? I think we should be offering him a very good deal but I don't think we should be held to ransom either, we gave him his chance last season when we could have stuck with more experienced players and he's by no means the finished article yet.

Most important thing is getting his name on the dotted line. Buyout or no, if a top 4 side came in with £15+ we'd be hard pressed to turn it down. Better that than a free transfer....

Got to say im dissappointed in Holliett. Blackburn have done everything for him to be in the position he is in right now. We've showed so much faith in this guy, supported and literally brought the guy up - i would have thought that would be enough for him to sign the damn contract without wanting a buy out clause. Sad times...

If he wants the buy out clause added then he's obviously already got one foot out the ground when it comes to his way of thinking. By all means id rather we sort this out, slap a clause of 20million on him and see what happens come January!

How has it taken this long to reach a snag?!?!?! These negotiations have been hilariously shambolic. The deal was supposed to be signed in July not still being stretched out into October...
