'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Is that a smile on Steve Kean's face?

It may be a bit too early to get massively over excited just yet but there is no doubt that the dark cloud hanging over Ewood Park in the last few months is starting to lift.

With the summer a tough proposition you could be forgiven for thinking that sometimes your luck isn't in.

But news reaches us that Rovers are very close to sealing THREE new signings - one striker, one midfielder and one defender.

The names (although not mentioned by Steve Kean himself) are FC Dallas' George John, Simon Vukcevic and Bosnian International Vedad Ibisevic.

All three are close to finalising moves with Vukcevic the most imminent with his medical set to be completed early today.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph - "A couple of bids have been accepted. We`ve got scans booked in, personal terms agreed. That`s always good. "Vukcevic is the midfielder, the striker we can`t say because we are still in negotiations, while the defender will be in for a medical tomorrow (Friday).

"I am bearing up well, when you can get your key players back on the pitch, when you get bids accepted, when you know there are medicals in place, when you see things coming together, then you are going to have a smile on your face because you know what type of squad you are going to have.

"I can reassure the fans we have three players in already, and I think we will have another four players in before the window closes. It will certainly be three but it could well be four. So seven new faces in one transfer window and that has been good.

"The three players we are hoping to sign are all permanent and the fourth would be permanent as well. We are keeping our loans for last minute stuff."

One thing is for sure is that all three will need work permit's, but Lisbon's Vukcevic should qualify for one automatically... giving him a 'sporting' chance (oh I do make myself laugh) of facing Villa.

Funny what a few potential signings do!

Whatever one's view of Keano's management and coaching skills (I think it is still too soon to judge) one has to admire his durability. He deserves a medal for dealing with all the flak that has come his way. I hope that he can instill some of his durability into the squad and we stop throwing away leads. I hope that he is not only smiling but that he is having the last laugh at the weak-willed fans who have been bleating about a lack of signings with plenty of transfer window still to go at. Shame on them.

Would be nice to get Vukcevic on in the second half against the villains and see what the lad can do.

Get a grip tubzz. In the current overpriced market, to get a player of Vukcevic's quality for £2million is an absolute steal. As for Ibisevic, the guy scores goals. He scored 18 goals in 17 games for Hoffenheim in the 08/09 season before he did in his cruciate ligament, and since then has still kept up a 1 in 3 rate. Just out of curiosity, who would you want us to be signing??

tubzz our scouts have identified players who will come improve the squad that we can get for good value for money. Berg would be alot more expensive as would defoe. Just because you may have money spending it stupidly is not the answer nor is wasting time going after players who will not come to blackburn ie berg/defoe. As fans we do not see our club as small but some players do and these we should not go after therefore congrates have to go to our scouts.

o raul, beckham are cheap sure if we go and sign 5 , 2million players and are out the gate next year wit kean {hopefully} and possible a 3million player would it not be worth going off and signing a good 8million player [defoe] and 5million player[berg] and just go for it till janurary and then get ur CB s and MFers

Well with all these new signings (potential signings... don't want to jinx it) we will have numbers in the squad. I just hope that they all can adjust to the premier league quickly and play well for us.

All of these look like sensible moves that'll shift us on a bit - which is just what we should be interested in, not marquee signings that'll get us some headlines and then massive wage bills.

My only fear is too many new faces will take time to gel and get upto speed with the rigours of the prem, Kean has set his store out for a youthful rovers, and the experienced players linked are all playing abroad, Will take some master stroke to get them all to gel before xmas

Have we actually signed any of these 4 mentioned players that were supposed to be signing? Keane said that they were definetly coming in but it seems to have gone quite. After the villa result were one of last weeks better players scored and put in a good performance could this week only make the bench, maybe Mr Keane should just consentrate on playing a settled team and not keep changing it week in week out depending on injuries!!!!!
