Bentley rumour strengthens

Plenty of rumours fly around over the course of a summer... some are just papers trying to fill column inches, some get bandied about before petering out and some even turn out to have some substance to them.

Over the weekend the big talking point for a large section of those of a Arte et Labore persuasion was the strengthening rumour that David Bentley could be on his way back to Blackburn Rovers.

It seems to fit. Bentley has been nothing short of a £15 million joke since his switch from Rovers to spurs a few years back.

His main contribution of note since his big money move have been a speculative hoof past Manuel Almunia in a North London derby and expertly smashing a football off a roof of a building into a skip for his own You Tube pleasure.

So it's not gone well for him and he needs out if he ever wants to play first team football again.

A former club is always a safe house for a wounded player and it also helps that he enjoyed the best football of his career at Ewood Park.

Rovers themselves aren't exactly badly off for right wingers with Junior Hoilett and Brett Emerton on the right flank but they are short of a bit creativity which Bent on his day can certainly provide.

£7 million is a rumoured figured or even the option of the dreaded loan move.

This rumour could get bigger or it could die by the wayside. What is noticeable though is that the rumour is out there.

Would you have him back?

It would be a large turn around in fortunes to see Bentley return... could he swallow his pride?

spurs supporter here, bentley is a good player. never got a chance at spurs as arry didnt like him as a person, not his football skills. he would be great for you again. just dont know if he would get ishy feet after a season or so.

Why does any of this matter? Don't you know he can kick a ball into a skip?! Haha. If we become desperate for a winger (not sure we are) then loan him with a view to sign. If the figure is near £7m then forget it.

He can play as an advanced CM also, why are we so bothered about price all of a sudden? we have only spent 2.8 this summer, the Venky's can dip their hands in their pockets if you ask me. Told of a kitty of 20-30 mill, then sold Jones for 17, get some pennies spent!! Bentley is a proven prem player with still plenty to offer, this is not a risk and is not going to see the club bankrupt... deadline soon. We have good morale and a few promising youngsters, but the squad needs to some real money being pumped into it. I like us taking short-cuts with squad building, but sometimes some good hard cash is needed too!

We should just say £5m take it or leave it IMO. He isn't going to play at Spurs and they need the wonga if they want to buy .players like Rossi or Forlan. Having said that I still don't think this will happen.

All of a sudden danny? The quoted price is all anyones spoken about since it surfaced. It's not that I'm bothered that we will spend £7m....it's the idea that it would be spent on Bentley! 14 starts in 2 seasons is barely worth half of that!! He's obviously not in Arry's plans so how spurs dig £7m out I've no idea. (like £15m for Krancjar..lmao)

i would only take him back on a loan move. the bottomline for his return is he has to realize there're many quality midfield players in the squad now and he can't be guaranteed a starting spot. i'd rather give more opportunities to our young players, but if he comes here on loan, he could be worth it.

Not convinced. At all.

Bentley was excellent for us - I'd take him back

I don't want Bentley back, he turned his back on us I hope we sign Vieirinha as he looks really exciting and skillful but I'm not sure that deal will happen
