Kean happy to see "CrackingShaft" get off the mark

Rovers manager Steve Kean was a happy chappy after seeing Rovers win their final pre-season fixture 4-1 at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Despite looking a bit wide open at times, Rovers were clinical in front of goal (yes you read that correctly) and put their Scottish opponents to the sword with some fast paced interplay.

Further good news was provided in the form of a debut goal for new signing David Goodwillie who replaced two goal hero Jason Roberts (again, yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you).

Goodwillie picked up a clever header from the impressive Mauro Formica before showing great composure and a smart finish.

Kean proclaimed his positive state and reserved special praise for the fantastically named new boy.

A thrilled Kean told the Rovers official website - 'It was good to end the pre-season matches with a win. You know you're going to get a good competitive match when you play a team from Scotland and I felt that was what we got.

'We scored some good goals, had a couple of penalties and I was delighted for David Goodwillie to score on his debut.

'It was a typical goal from him, his awareness to pick up the bounce of the ball, to turn inside and score, he's a natural finisher.'

Awful awful title Mikey! But seriously, lets hope for more goals as we will need them from him, thats for sure.
adam_quirk
I kinda like it ;) Really happy to see him make a mark!

Clinical, 2 goal hero, lets hope its the start of a change. Big Sam was trotting out the same old stuff after defeat at the weekend, and we have the word clinical. Wonder when that word was last used about Rovers?

i have feeling goodwille might be like kevin doyle for wolves hard working makes his own chances because of the lack of talent in midfield

Really hope he does well. It's been a few years since we had a consistent (well...consistently good) striker at the club ;)
fransavarese
Oh and Chelsea fan you will see a much better midfield this season ;)

pmsl at the "Crackingshaft". Can't ask any more of the lad than to get off the bench and grab his debut goal. Hope a few more to come this season.

it's all good, but i heard the scoreline was actually flattering and we didn't actually create that many chances. can anyone confirm?

Given as he hadn't even trained with the squad before the game, this has to be a good sign!
